SQRT, I have a question about the 2.9. Where'd you get yours? Do I need anything else besides the BL motor?

You need the tail ESC, and a way to mount the motor. You can make your own mount or there are several on the market.

Right on. I found the required setup over at clubheli.com & wowhobbies.com. This stock gear mesh is a pain in the arse! :o

yes they are. The 4g6 has more gears, but they work. I found a way to make the gears mesh better, but you have to wire the motor backwards.

This mite keep ya till you want to take the brushless tail plunge

BTW, 2.9 g all the way. And glue it into whatever socket you are using with a flexable glue, I used brush on wire tape. It sticks fast and remains rubbery. The 2.9g tail's only weakness is if the motor gets knocked off in a crash, the wires can break inside the motor and you can't solder them back on.

Wow, great idea. I like how you used the tail rotor to essentially push the mesh into place.

These are great. The ones with the motor mount actually in the fin are awesome from this site:http://www.micro-heli-concepts.com/

Along with the 2.9 with circlip http://www.wowhobbies.com/turboace21...or-2g-1-1.aspx
and you will have an almost indestructable and reliable tail. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...postcount=5455

Yepp. I'd swear over whatever you want about JasonJetski/MHC's tail durability & resilience. It will outlast the rest of the heli parts.
