Default Goooooodbye MSH

Hello MSH owners.

After a year with my Protos, I have to let it go after my last crash yesterday.

The reason ?

Static / Cut off / Crash / Parts / No flying time with it / Wasted money.

My main and only problem with my Protos is the ‘ Cut Off ‘ issue that I have not resolved by any way…

_Motor ? Changed from standard MSH to Z Power Z20A motor 850Kv, and then to Esky EK5-0007 1100Kv
_Pinion ? From 18 to 15 to 13 with MSH 51098 Motor Adapter 4mm
_ESC ? From standard 60A Lipotech, to Turnigy plush 80A, then to Kontronik, changed to simple ESC up to 100A,…but the cut off issue did not leave me.
_UBEC ? Yes with extra battery [ 800mA ] in order to drive my servo's and not load power from motor.
_Grounding ? From tail to frame then to motor, you know the usually wiring path.
_Battery’s ? Flightmax, Zippy, Turnigy, NanoTech. All up to 40C discharge.
_Receiver ? One Futaba and one FRSky so far.
_Frame ? From plastic to carbon
_Lubrication ? Have try that as well with antistatic.
_Curve’s ? All the types Flat, not flat, governor, with out governor.

Sorry, but I can not go on with MSH.
It is not only the money mater [ it is like to have buy 2 Trex 500 the money that I have spend so far to parts ] it is that I have not enjoy any flight with this machine and this is not fair at all…

Conclusion ?
Goooooodbye MSH

Have you seen my solution?!
The problem were the servos!!! They killed the BEC in the air, causing cut-offs nearly every flight...

I understand the frustration - but please remind yourself of MSH when the same happens with other brands. From what I read in your post, all your troubles has nothing to do with MSH

I have to let you know, that the same set up, on different helis, work just perfect.
I have placed it on a HDX500 as well as on my GAUI 550, as well as on a Trex500, withOUT any of MSH static conflicts.
Sorry.

Do you really think that futaba servos can cause " cut off " ?
Yes I have read your posts about that problem.
I also run UBEC for that reason with a separate battery.

Yes, from what I have been reading, that is the issue. Not the heli.

I use 9650´s cyclic and BLS on tail and only had the mod from boom to frame (carbon).
In the bench, I could see sparks between the tail and the tail fin. That's why I'm running a wire from the tail bearing to boom. Even so, never had a single cutoff (lipotech and YGE).
Sparks are still there, but silicone on the belt solves the issue. VBar log is free from errors, but if I don't use silicone a message sauing the tail sensor shows no actual signal comes in once in a while.

One time a servo started twitching on the bench, with the transmitter on the side of the heli.
Turned out to be the receiver wire that was exposed and was touching the skids. Put a small heat shrink tube on it, and solved the problem.

Mikado logos are worse than MSH. They build a lot of static also.
I'm sorry for the cutoffs...
Are the battery plug and motor/esc bullets appropriate size?

Use the conductive boom block. Works great and is error proof. I actually borrowed a high voltage meter from work to verify it properly stopped any static discharges.

Also a good brownout test is to apply some pressure to the grips while pitch pumping for a minute.

The kV of your motor (1100!!) is way too high.

Anyway, I agree with the others. I had no issues at all. But I know my setup was proper.

I'm giving up...
No feeling like more test and money..
Sorry.
About my motor, worked with 13 pinion.

I have had 2 Protos and the only cut-outs (2 times) were due to the Lipotec controllers. I have been using the Align ESC on both without any cut outs 2 years now. Futaba 9650s and 9254 tail. Scorpion 880kv motors. I have used DX7 and JR9303 radios. Both Protos have been statically grounded.

The heli is not the issue, and when I had a Trex 500 that too had a static problem and grounding the boom helped it as well.

How did you run a 1100kv on the Protos? I would not think it was possible unless you ran 4s packs?

Sorry you had all those problems. Mine has been flawless, not sure why. It's my hotdog rocket, even though I normally fly logos.

@dhiotis
You didn't mention what size lipo you were using? You also didn't mention what throttle percentages you were running on your TX or what headspeed you were running when it cuts out. Regardless, the motor and ESC has nothing to do with the Protos.

Are you running Spektrum? Did you check if the led on the RX indicated a brown out?

+1 on that! I absolutely love my Protos. I even went through the bad motor/esc issues when it first came out, and still persevered due to the psychotic cyclic speeds I observed while it WAS running( for the short 30 seconds before the motor locked up). It really is a neat heli! Sorry to hear you had so many problems-I feel your pain bro!

The failure of the one-way-bearing is/was the isssue, and not the esc. At first I thought that my esc shut down, but it turned out to be the one-way-clutch thats inside the pinion. See this thread for more info! https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=421781
