Me thinks Night's plan is to move to transitional lift as the rotors began to auto rotate, much like the pusher prop on a gyro-copter.
Battery comsumption will transfer from rotor to EDF's. He'll then use a Jewel generator on the rotor to re-charge the battery as fast as the EDF's are using it thereby creating the worlds first perpetual motion Helicopter He'll come up with an auto pilot so it will fly it self as he does need his 2 hours of sleep a night. Next we'll see a video of "Night's Coast to Coast Adventures" non stop..... At least that's been our experience of "Da Man" so far

Wow, and I thought stretching my TRex 450Pro was going to be a bit expensive.

I only wish....lol, there is still quite a bit of math to do,and the shopping list is about 3/4's done or at least I hope it is.
The one MAJOR stumbling block to this is I haven't an area large enough now to even attempt to start a build of this size. So the plan is to see if I can "borrow" a few work benched and floor space @ work to start this project Quote:

Houston ----- Apollo 13 ----- we have a problem.........
Well now that the RJX / ALIGN 800 is air worthy, it was time to start putting it through her paces.
Towards the end of the 2nd flight I noticed that its loosing her punch.... Nothing binding, all setting are still good. A look at the ICE80HV data logger though tells a different tale..... The data is saying that the ESC is now running just above 200 degrees F and the motor reads 215. Even though the ESC is running @ roughly 70% of its stated rating the drive train can not sustain this bird. I knew at the start that turning 800 blades may strain the ESC and NEU motor, but this much of a strain is not safe. Not being a total surprise, I have already ordered a Scorpion 5020-450 motor designed for these 800 class helicopters. And though I have a CC110HV and HobbyWing 120HV ESC on hand, I've gone ahead and placed an order for the new CCICE120HV ESC. If the WereWolf 800 is any indicator, this will be the cure for the RJX ALIGN 800 A KDE universal motor mount is also en route, some frame modification will be needed to fit this new motor and mount, but should pose little trouble to install.. Should have the parts in by late next week, till then I'll be content to just have hang on the wall in one piece til the replacement drive train is delivered.

This is the kind of thread I joined this forum to get involved in! This is a put a smile on your face in the morn kinda thing. Especially for someone like me that has spent my life involved in mechanical engineering. This is cool stuff! Subscribed bro!

As it turns out there seems to be a very high demand for the 50 series motors from Scorpion.....
every place Iv'e tried comes back with the same story......"waiting for arrival stock". will put you on waiting list.. Even Scorpion them selves are saying a 30 day wait for stock... Well, this situation was unacceptable I'm now locked into a timetable that can not be changed. So the hunt began... After almost 2 hours, I located a 5020-450 motor in Canada and.. that was in stock I quickly placed the order and got the confirmation, Then a second Email, in where the nice CS lady warned me that it might be costly to ship the motor to the US from Canada.. My response... and I quote " my dear the 50series 450 and 440 are not to be found, Scorpion themselves do not have any on hand ( or if they do they are not releasing them) So yours is the only game in town. So as of this moment, the 450kV motor, BOCA motor bearings, and KDE unversal motor mount are en-route This is going to happen heli come high water!!!!!

Back in the lab.......
The RJX/ALIGN Hybrid 800 is cooling her skids till the new drive train arrives.. So it's back to the WereWolf 800... I've noticed for some reason these 800 will come down slightly tail low....this my be due to me and the learn curve or a function of the mechanics involved..time will tell.. But twice now I've managed to plant the vertical stabilizer in the ground. Fortunately, no damage to the tail blades, TT or TT gears. So for the present I managed a simple solution to the problem.... This happens to work very well for 600, 700 & 800's Along with that...now getting the fleet ready to hit the road, first stop next week is FMA, After that the FunFly in upstate NY. So the time has come to get the evening attire on the girl... Gotta have the WereWolf graffiti

So just a newbie question, putting small bolts through the rear CF tail will not weaken it sufficiently for it to fold over? Mine did it without mods of any kind. Of coarse I am not nearly the pilot that you are, lol. Like I said, just curious. If this works it answeres a huge issue for me since I engineered a plate underneath my tail rotor to keep it from touching the grass or ground. Compared to your simple solution mine is somewhat more cumbersome.
P.S. If I had your heli collection I do not think that I would ever sleep.

Where do you live in your home?
Looks great Night!
I spent some time today clearing the dining room table before moving onto the next project. Lucky to have understanding Wives' in this hobby I don't have a shop I can move the bigger birds too like you do and don't want to press my luck. I've learned to take small steps, kinda like the ol' "boil the frog" analogy. Mel

As to "weakening the CF..I don't think it will under flying conditions remember there is no massive load being placed on it...I know a few who don't even bother to use them..

Mel,
My dining room table is my work shop, 99% of what I've done has been on a 4 foot round table, and trust me its cramped to do....lol Quote:

Thanks! The whole issue with me is that everywhere I fly in the N.West there is grass that always interferes with the Tail upon landing. It either wipes out the gears or stretches the belt whenever I land it anywhere other than a paved spot. Wholly snikes your helis are beeeeuuuuutifl. Slobber, Slobber.

If for some reason (I hope not but you never know) your order from Canada is delayed or canceled, there is a possible alternative. Albeit a 470KV, but newly released from Align is a 700MX which was just released yesterday. According to their web-site, this motor was designed for F3C flight but we all know that doesn't mean a thing to the Master "nightflyr". At $177.99, it seems affordable for what it is.
700MX Brushless Motor(470KV) RCM-BL700MX 1.700MX motor incorporates radial fan in its end bell, creating powerful airflow to dissipate heat. Tweaks to motor design and reduction in weight not only contributes to dramatic power increase, the high efficiency cooling system enables cooler operating temperature during and after flights when compared to motor of previous generation. 2.The 700MX motor armature had a special balance adjust to improve the serious shaking problem that other tiny motors have. 3.Maintenance free, high torque, high efficiency, stable and quiet. 4.High-speed ball bearings, powerful magnetic outrunner rotor. 5.Suitable for T-REX 700E helicopters. 700MX(470KV) motor is designed for F3C flight. The better head speed range can completely bring up the efficacy of motor and ESC. Other than that, the 470KV motor have cooler operating temperature and also low power consumption for batteries. Specs: ●Input voltage: DC11.1V-50.4V ●Max continuous current: 90A/150A(5sec) ●Max output power: 4000W/6600W(5sec) ●KV value: 470KV ●Stator Arms: 12 ●Magnet Poles: 10 ●Dimension: Spindle Φ6xΦ52x57.5mm ●Weight: 405g (approx.)
