Default Ideal headspeed?

I have a trex 700E converted to and 800E with 780mm blades and 115 tail. I wanted to know a good average headspeed to run at. I'm running 1800 rpms for good sport and soft 3d. What's your take

Mine runs with 1600, 1700 and 1950 on the castle governor and all three work well in various types of flying (lazy, aerobatic and 3d) I should add that the 1950 I have programmed in actually showed up as 2000 rpm w a visual tach.

Play with RPM to find sweet spot.

Rising it up is tempting. More pop, more control, better sound, more spectacular, easier to fly.

Sure there is penalty of shorter flight times, more stress on motor, ESC and lipos. Finally higher odds for mechanical failure in flight. Try flying in normal mode to get idea what RPM is effective just to hover.

It is personal preference. You can go as low as 800 RPM and as high as 2200 RPM. Both extremities are not recommended and can result in problems. 1000-2000 range seems fine.

Is 1500 "the best"? Depends on airframe, total weight, flyingnstyle, harmonics (vibes), blades used, available power, etc. 1500 can be good starting point.

I'm running a head speed of 1080 on both my 800 Trekker and 800 Pro DFC, they sure sound nice at that RPM and fly real nice for scale flight, But....

Try 3D and you will be bringing your bird home in a bucket!

I can do a decent tight tic toc at 1100 rpm on my 700.... currently working on getting my piro tic tocs and 4 point tic toc tighter and precise

I cal also do piro funnel with reversal, and piro rainbows...

So I don't see why you can't do 3d on a 800 with 1080...

Yes, it surely does need good anticipation and management of collective, which will come with proper practice.

TBH, I've never tried any kind of 3D so I was just going on what I have read here, it's great to hear you can do it though.

I'm just a poor old scale flyer that likes to do a lot of F3C style with precision hovering and circuits.

I came into this hobby to late so I'm to old to learn any 3D, in fact due to my Wife's failing health I hardly get any time to go to the field these days so I'm pretty much stuck to what I can do in my back garden.

Good job I love doing the hovering side of F3C as that's about all I have the space for in the garden with my 800 birds.

I can totally relate to you, I loved the elegant scale like low HS manouvres, that was the reason I started flying low HS..

Overtime, i started pushing it to see how much it can do, and was surprised with the 3D capability..

okay so 1700 rpms would be the higher end and more geared towards 3D flight? okay ive backed it down to 1600 and it dropped the vibes quite a bit. apparently the larger helis are designed for lower headspeed due to larger blades. I fly sport and aerobatic. light 3D sometimes. okay so with 780mm blades it would probably be best to run at 1500, 1600, and 1700. seems to be the sweet spot. I changed my tail gearing to compensate for the lower rpms so tail holds great.

Never mind heli feels wobbly and tail bounces too much. Back up to 1750 roms and higher
