Warp Modopoluza #1 - the CG fix.
I am using GA1200 packs that weigh 175g. Plus I am adding a custom tail that add 3g on the end, which needs about 10g of counterweight. And I am using a very light esc (the flux capacitor, which has a close resemblance to a CC 50 light ).
Needless to say, I am a bit tail heavy. The quick fix. 1) respot the canopy grommets back 1". 2) make a longer canopy hold down on the belly 3) Trim some of the metal off the front metal standoff. I first made a prototype out of some easy to cut plexi. Checked different batteries (175g and 250g). Made some changes. Cut the final pieces. After painting the new skids (Santa's Sleigh), battery tray extender, tail fin, cano hold down, I had a final product . . . almost. The picture doesn't have the new grommet holes cut yet. I have some new blank canos coming in and they don't have any holes so I will cut them in exactly where I need them. I also did a keychain mode with breakaway tabs. SOP on all my helis. |

Yeah, I'm starting to think I need to extend my battery tray and move my canopy to accommodate my WR Super Mini Bec G2 ... I'm having a real hard time finding a home for it under the canopy and still being able to get the canopy on.

That's cool! You have a laser cutter in your shop?

Yes, but it is not the preferred method for cutting. Those 5 pieces took 1.5 hours of cutting. My laser tubes are getting tired. A cnc would have it cut in minutes and could handle CF.

Warp Modopoluza #2 pulley/pinion fix, CGv2, bling
I run a castle ice 50, and when set rpm is enabled, they require more pinion than most esc's. The photos below show a castle at 18t and a yge at 16t learned at 4.0v. They are very similar.
So I put in an 18t pinion. The pinion is 1.3mm larger in dia than the stock 16t. Now let it be said that 16t will probably be fine if I had a yge or kontronic. But I have an CC ice 50 lite. Note: the 17t pinion also has a larger diameter than stock. After installation I discovered it pressed against the upper pulley. I contacted Nankin, and of course they were great and got one out. The easy fix is to just flip the assembly so the motor doesn't use the counter bearing, and offset the motor mount. But I think the counter bearing is an excellent design feature. I am guessing that this pulley is a part on another compass heli, maybe the 6hv. So I ground down the pulley 2mm from 15mm to 13mm. That left plenty of material for the motor belt to use. Before: Took off the burs and and it was good to go. After: Next was the battery cg issue. I had the GA 1200 which weighed 175g. I got the cg resolved, but the battery stuck out too much. That pushed the canopy out and since the canopy tapers in (another great design feature), I had to extend my key chain bushings. I ordered some green pulses which actually weigh in at 258g with connectors. Helidirect specs says it weighs 220g . . . NOT! Very similar to the GA1400's which I have been told will be here next season ( I asked on FB). So if you want GA 1400's and don't want to wait, the green pulses 1350 sure spec out very similar to the GA's. After playing with the CG, I removed the custom battery extension tray and the cano extension. I put on 62mm blades rather than the 70mm ones I had one (thanks Mr. Barret for the idea!). That saved some weight. So I added 80g of battery weight (but added 150mah), and removed 60g of "stuff" (tail fin, battery extension tray, cano hold down). So net net, I added 20 grams and gained 150 mah. . . and got my cg more towards center . . . and pushed my cano in . . .. which gave more clearance from the gears . . . . because the canopy tapers in. I added some velcro to the bottom of the batteries and they function as my cano hold down now. A put a pink foam spacer in so cg would be exact every time. Funny. Look at the snapshot from the website and look at it mounted in the pic below. Doesn't it seem that the real thing is longer? More evidence that it is perhaps the GA1400. This let me push my cano back, and I could trim some of the key chain bushings in the process. Added some more metallic bling. Next up, the custom cano. This is some astounding work. Any way you can tailor this into the mod thread Mods? This deserves its spot!

I will, I just want confirmation when I get the new pulley that it is indeed still 15mm. dia.

Nice idea and job with grinding the pulley down to a smaller diameter.

Canos are done.
The CG is perfect. In fact, it's the best piroing heli I have. This has motivated me to get all the other helis CG perfect. But even with cc 3150 gov and 18t pinion, the headspeed is still too slow for the weight (1080g). I will try a new esc to get around 3300 gov'd. Also made a TFP cano scheme for phoenix. |

There are little gullies where I fly that can cause tips with the Warp. So after a little experimentation, I widened the skid distance with .5" bushings and 30mm 2.5 screws. So now the skids are 1" wider.
