Hello,
Has any body tried the Helix blades (Nick Maxwell) for speed flight? Thanks Belgo |

Still to new, but as Nick said on his FB page, designed for 3D so maybe same as Cyclone blades. But let's wait till somebody tests them.

What about rail blades? Good or bad for speed?

The only thing I know about Rails is that either I was very lucky or they balance their main blades extremely well. M Rails, a set of 556', were only 0.01 grams off. Radix mains are typically 0.16-0.18 grams off and Edges are typically 0.35- 0.75 grams off.

Jan's blades are basically Radix FBL blades, were made for release of TDR which was then nearly the only FBL helicopter. They fly really well. Edge or Rail tail blades works well for low head speeds with their wide chords.

Have you tried Rail 716's for speed ? extremely well balanced blades , they are very stable @ 151mph, hoping to push them even further next speed cup our competition had the Radix and they couldn't catch us , not bagging the radix as i like to fly them on my TDR and are a very good blade just letting you know that the Rails are excellent at high speeds I also watched my friends Goblin 700 clock 147 mph with 716 rails on it |

I'm going to try the rail 696 that i have available...I'll give some feed back of what i think once i tried them. I'm running the pyro 700-52...what pitch would you suggest...also i'm going to move to a 13t pinion over the weekend!!..lots of changes for me...including setup and install of jlog!!

I would stick with 14T for upto 1900RPM on a jive and that motor. Use 14 deg pitch

I tend to agree, currently running the 13t pinion at +-1700 rpm with my TC set at 65%...dont want to go over 65% as per kontronik manual..to give enough head room....I'm really keen on getting 1850rpm...I think it will make a massive difference

Jans blades are not Radix FBL. Jans blades are a copy of first version Radix (flybar) . I dont like them, because they are not so stable as FBL blades.

I fly Rail 716's on my TDR and love them. I also fly 696's on my Shape and tried Cyclones on it this weekend. They seem fine, no pitching up tendencies for me. I like them and need to fly them more, but I still favor the Rails, without a doubt, and they will stay on my TDR. I haven't tried Nick's blades, but the design is very intriguing to me.

I have spoke with Nick about trying his blades for speed. Response was basically Hmm I don't know let's try them lol. We were suppose to try them at IRCHA but he pretty much ran out of blades. Hopefully I will get a chance soon. I do know that Nick's machine is extremely light and the blades work well but my speed machine is a pig as far as weight is concerned.

I got a set. I'll put them on my new E700 but I testing them on the TDR and Banshee has crossed my mind. If only they were 710.......

So today i tested the rail 695 blades on my TDR...wind was a bit gusty at 4:30pm which made the heli pitch up and down quite a bit...felt very unstable but id say wind was at 15 knots....5:30pm came and not a gust in sight and man i enjoyed those blades...much more precise than the blades i got from jan, plus it looked like i was going faster :-)
The ridgid head does not like a gusty environment unfortunately. Just my two cents

As for the radix machines not catching you id say thats the machine and/or pliot. Stef hit 273kmh with Radix max speed recently. DH blades are good for speed to. Radix fai but check dampers and bearings often. Rotortech 710s are good too, the older ones. Tried a few different blades on Spunky Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
