Default Miniature Aircraft Fury 55 Build Videos

OK another heli build in the bunker! Heliwholesaler, Miniature Aircraft, and Lynxheli sponsored this build. At the Vegas funfly they asked if I would do a build video series on this new heli. Of course I would I have never had a Miniature Aircraft heli! They sent me this about a month ago so I am a little late getting started. I still have to finish the final electronics mounting on the Velocity 50 but that should be done this weekend and then I will get started on this one.

In the mean time here is my usual "What's in the box!"

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - What's in the box! (80 Megs)

OK here we go! Build is starting!
How this build works is in BAGS... First up is BAG 1 - Frame build. Because this is a large step the videos for bag 1 is in 3 step videos.

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 1 - Part 1 Frames (70 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 1 - Part 2 - Frames (74 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 1 - Part 3 - Frames (99 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 2 - Part 1 - Clutch and Fan (68 Megs)

Note in this video at the end I discuss what part of the frame needs to be modified for the Novarossi 57 Pipe. It's the lower left removable frame part that needs modding. I will show doing the modification later. Also Brian from MA says they now have a different optional bottom left frame side for use with the Novarossi pipe. So you can either mod the one in the kit like I will be doing or order the one for the Novarossi pipe.
VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 2 - Part 2 - Motor mounts, Fan Shroud, and Motor Installation (87 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 2 - Part 3 - Tank (48 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 5 - Part 1 - Swash Plate and Washout (59 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 5 - Part 2 - Servo Installation (59 Megs)

Sorry for the long delay of a few weeks. I hope some of you that started building when I started were successful and for those just going to get one of these helis now, hope this all helps.

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 5 - Part 3 - Servo Setup (98 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 6 - Part 1 - Seesaw and Mixer Arms (64 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 6 - Part 2 - Blade Grips (76 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 6 - Part 3 - Final Head build and Head Setup (75 Megs)

OK back to Bag 3&4

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 3&4 - Part 1 - Tail Case (89 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 3&4 - Part 2 - Pitch Slider Assembly (43 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 3&4 - Part 3 - Tail Rotor (75 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Bag 3&4 - Part 4 - Boom Supports (35 Megs)

OK once again sorry for the delay! IRCHA was a blast. Also we are buying a new house and you know what that does to someones schedule! Anyway continuing on..

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Throttle Servo Setup (44 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Tail Servo Mechanical Setup (38 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Align GP780 Gyro Setup (84 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Canopy Installation (52 Megs)

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Electronics Placement and some final build notes.(40 Megs)

Update 4/4/2011 - Fury 55 Break Away Canopy Mounts. This video shows how to get the MA break away mounts and install them on your Fury 55.

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Install the new Fury 55 Break Away Canopy Mounts (77 Megs)

-------------------------------

OK finally got some flight testing in. I had some problems with my Rossi and in the end it was me getting the engine right. I wound up with the STOCK head spacers on 30% cool power. I think my mistake early on was I changed the head shims! I am still having some problems with the heli leaning out when the head is unloaded but I know they have a new carb out for the Rossi which I plan to get.

Anyway this is NOT my maiden flight report but we videoed some early on flights while the motor is getting close to break in. Enjoy

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - First Test Flights (100 Megs)

OK so sorry guys I have not done my own flight report yet. Seriously I gotta tell you weather, new people asking me for help at the field, and many other things have gotten in my way. Trust I want to, but some days at my local field it's just not a priority for me. The build vids I feel speak for this heli. This is a quality and great heli! This is in fact one of the best 50's out there and I am not BS'ing you. The more I and everyone I trust to fly it, the more we love the damn thing!

But in the spirit of "candid" video reviews, A few weeks ago I let a sponsored pilot fly it. I am not going to name names but he liked it and enough to say he wants one
Here is the video:

VIDEO -> Fury 55 - Another flight maiden report (86 Megs)

YES! My maiden report will come

Bob

Fabulous Bob - I've been admiring this heli for a few weeks now as MA Team Pilot Gavin Broadbent has one down here - it perfroms way better than you would expect from it's sturdiness and as with all MA stuff is beautifully crafted - looking forward to your vids

You posted this in the wrong forum for sure. This is for the MA Fury 55 nitro. Not even an electric heli. Would you like me to move this to the main forum where you will get proper answers?

Bob - I built mine a few weeks ago. I too chose the Novarossi 57, but with Outrage 56 pipe. I made no frame mods to fit the 57. In fact, I thought it fit perfect with no mods. Not even snug. Engine comes in and out easily with MA's innovating frame design.

A few comments:

I marked my own locations for canopy mount posts. Stock "dimple" locations for canopy mounting holes were a touch too far forward to make nice clearance for the pipe within the molding in the canopy. Mine were relocated about 1/4" rearward with no problems. Nice touch including thumb screws up front.

Running .5 mm shim stack for 30% nitro (CY Performance) in the Novarossi.

I've had a little vibes in the heli at 1800 rpm head speed during break-in. Likely fresh/stiff dampers. Super responsive cyclic with DS610's on 6.6 volts.

That's right...Hyperion LiFE 2S pack for receiver vs your planned Align 2in1. I found I needed the big 3800 mah pack to make nice CG balance with a load of fuel.

I started with 70% gain (DX7) on the Spartan, and haven't had to touch it. Tail is perfect so far. (I am still breaking in, as I had a delay due to a receiver problem (AR7100R). So far, though, I am using the Spektrum RevLimit sensor included, using Danal's Prog Mix for Switchglow.)

There are some really slick setup tips on one website for the direct to swash control. The poster used a bolt and nut to make an adjustable rest for a simple 6" scale to use for settign the servo alignment at 90 degrees. There are pics available. Big Futaba servo wheels appear to be nearly mandatory for proper throw. I didn't particularly enjoy all the trimming needed, but is sure works and can't be simpler once they are modified.

Happy building!

MA told me it needed a MINOR frame mod for the Rossi. It maybe possible they changed the frames now already. I will find out when I start building. Thanks for the tips Rob43!

I'm dying to see this thing built! I'm about 95% sold on the Fury 55 being my next heli, and a Finless Bob build thread just takes the cake on it!

Try this for Bag1-Part2:

http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=...bag1_part2.wmv

and Bag1-Part3:

http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=...bag1_part3.wmv

Looks like they were just labeled wrong.

Enjoy! I sure will!
