Default Anyone using a header on the Velo90

Any of you guys using a header tank on your Velo 90?

I ask as I'm using a fuel magnet but I'm not having any confidence with it as I've tried so many fuel lines to get this to work and I have no confidence with it and prefer to run a header with bubbleless clunks instead
Could you post some pics for me please

I usually run a header tank on my birds but I haven't hooked one up on my V90 yet.

I keep forgetting to order one.

I had one. I like to glue mine with shoe goo to the main tank. Because the V90 tank has the large offset I mounted one on the left side with a quick UK standoff. I am running FBL with a V-Bar and a new motor and obviously new heli so I was trimming for vibration and removed it. My build was last fall but never got her past about 4 flights for settup. With the wet spring and super hot summer I am still tweaking.

Low battery has me delayed 1 week now. Nice thing about the VBar log there is no guessing if you had low voltage.

Shes not a virgin anymore

BTW I am not using a fuel mag either. Make sure you open the fuel nipple on the tank. I said nipple hehe Mine had a bur. My tank not my nipple..I mean my tank nipple.

I just set my timer and watch my tank and don't drain it like if I had a header tank. With electrics I am used to flying to a timer anyhow.

Oh for a pic look at the V90 pics in the sticky's. pg 3 or 4

Cheers for replies guys...

I asked as I just prefered the extra security of a header previously..

Kel... I have to say.. I've gained some confidence with that new tubing and the OMI.. it is working to the last drop of fuel, so I think I dont need to worry about the header now

Try adding some weight to the OMI, I use thrust washer halves.

I am not using one, I could not find a good way to mount it ( I use one on my Vel50 with the old tank type) I am using a lynx MOAS for now.

I will take a photo of how much fuel I landed with last week. I didn't notice it had run low and the engine didnt even start to lean out ! I do not run the stock length or clunk.

Dobje - What clunk line are you using with the MOAS.. I couldnt get it to work and I even Mailed Magic fingers Tareq and he said he couldnt get it to work either and use the OMI?

DominicD - I presume your using the OMI.. what length are you running? I had to get some thinner flexi tubing and using it longer than the manual IIRC with added weight to the OMI to work.. but it still misses a beat during tic tocs and now I really want to fit a header but I just cant find a suitable location

I have to measure , I will try it tomorrow and post it. I was thinking Tareq was using one strange. I am a sports flyer no 3d tic-toc or inverted stuff (not yet ) it seems to be working for me.

But i prefer a header also , if i know how to mount one.

I use sullivans medium line with a weighted OMI clunk, I weight down the OMI with a thrust bearing, I think they are the thrust bearings from the 50 tail. At first I thought I cut it way too short but this is how short it has to be to work.

Here is how low the fuel can get and still draw consistantly with a YS engine.

I have used the Lynx fuel tubing (special for tank clunk)

Thanks guys

We (me and Millerman) didnt go the Lynx tubing because it was a total rip off in the UK and after trying loads of other lines and clunks we settled on a retailer own brand for the flexibility.. I added two brass washers from a T500 head for the weight but it still need to be heavier however it does work. Dominic.. it seems you clunk line is much longer than mine.. I'm surprised it still managed to suck the tank dry?.. I have my length so the edge of the OMI is just touching the first back corner.. I think I might try it longer like you with a thrust washer to see see how it goes. If it still misses a beat (non pressurized OS).. I'm going to fit the header.. no matter how ugly it will look

Eck Eric B was telling me to run a shorter clunk line too, I might shorten it up alittle next time I pull it. I think the OMI along with the YS pressure lets me get away with alot.
