Default Demon 3X Setup

I finished the setup this morning of the Bavarian Demon 3X on my Trex 550 DFC. I'm using a DX8 with the Demon as the Rx using two satellite Rx. The cyclic servos have a small twitch\jitter. The elevator servo has the most twitch\jitter. The tail servo has no twitch\jitter. Is this normal?

Hmmm, is this similar to tail wag but on the cyclic?

Jitter in flight or on the bench when you give some stick input?

This is normal operation on the bench. It should not do this in flight.

I haven't tried to fly it yet because of the jitter. I guess I will try a cautious hover and see what happens. Thanks!

Yes, the jittering on the bench is quite un-nerving if you're new to the Demon and my tail servo doesn't so much jitter but pulses.

Should fly fine though and good luck for the maiden.

Don,
You'll see the servos jitter and make noise and on the bench its just normal, my tail servo pulses until it hits the end point. Perfect in the air. So just relax and enjoy.

Tail seems to hold pretty well when hovering. It will drift and re-center when I apply throttle when in Normal mode. Seems to hold in Idle 1. I haven't tried Idle 2 yet. The cyclic gain was too low so it was really sensitive to cyclic inputs. Tweaked that and it feels fine now. I am surprised that even with 100% gyro gain I can't get the tail to wag.

Might not wag now, but you may get chatter in FFF. Make sure you check via circuits and pitch pumps etc.

2 questions for all you Bavarian Demon 3X users:
1. on my TREX 600, just flew her, and when i fly straight in full blast head speed, the tail will jitter back and forth... how do i correct this? I went into the BD program, and decreased tail gyro gain from 55 to 50. did not change anything. it is on heading hold mode.

2. on my Gaui X3: on the ground, during spool up, jeeping it on - collective, the helicopter starts to spin like a top!!! what does this signify? How do i fix this? anyone seen this before?

You need to listen to the pid episode from r c heli nation podcast. They explain it all on how to tune the FBL.

you'll just have to go to the site and search "FBL".

could of sworn I posted this earlier.
Not sure about #1 but #2 probably means your rudder direction and feedback are backwards.. Take a look at these video and see if they help

How to: Check gyro and tail compensation on RC Helis (1 min 26 sec)

Gyro & tail direction, quick tip (4 min 20 sec)

PID stands for Proportional Integral Derivative. Its the technical name for the type of control scheme used internal to the FBL controllers. Look it up on wiki.

thank you very much.
got it all worked out.
I am a physician, and PID stands for "pelvic inflammatory disease" that is why I was asking what it stood for, I thought maybe it was a typo, so I was laughing a bit!!

anyways, this is what happened.

When I did the BD wizard. I reversed the tail servo on my Tx, so that the output matched what was on the screen. later on in the programming, there is ability to reverse servos to make the cyclic / swash / tail work properly. this is when I made the mistake. I did everything except check the blade movement, to reverse that servo on the wizard. My bad.

Well, after getting it all straightened out, I just hovered it outside, and looks great!!

thanks everyone, and I am glad no one has PID!!!

DonEmmel, I'm using the Demon 3SX on my Vario Bell 47GII. Just getting started with its programming. Wonder if the programming is the same. I would expect it'd be the same program.

Hit a snag with mine when trying to set the sticks at 100%. Second time around I'm not getting any change of the numbers on the bar graphs.

Tail noise is normal with this system. Elevator also tends to seem jumpy. Also normal [for this system].
