Well this is progress so far. Ignore the fact that I put the KDE motor mounts on backwards. Its fixed now. The 3rd bearing block will be a good addition to this frame. Its pretty flexible at the bottom without it. Those of you with 800 booms. When spacing your torque tube bearings on the torque tube. Did you use the 700 specs for the distance? Not that its super critical. Im just wondering. I'd like to keep tail vibes to a minimum.

Ok, upon further review of my 700 boom. I noticed the bearings were spaced evenly across the distance of the torque tube. For some reason. I was thinking the distance wasnt equal in order to keep vibes from traveling down the tube into the tail.

I got about as far as you plus the motor and servos. I added some stock Trex hex spreaders behind the anti rotation guide and in the 3rd bearing hole because these areas felt weak to me. I'm going to order the KDE third bearing block kit because I think this needs it. I'm blown away how small this frame is compared to the stock frame. With the 800 boom it really dwarfs the frame even farther. Should be finished tomorrow but have to wait for castle to send me a new esc since mine burst into flames. Not sure if I can hold out.....might just have to buy another.

I think the bearings should not be evenly spaced. If they are evenly spaced, each section of the torque tube will resonate at the same frequency multiplying the effect of the vibration and creating a more severe vibration at that one resonant frequency. If they are unevenly spaced, each section will resonate at a different frequency resulting is less severe vibrations.

That's just my thoughts on the subject.. Anybody care to second it?

sorry, I missed this post..
Thanks for your support, its much appreciated. . Wish we would have had the 800 blades and boom in for you at the time of your order, would have saved you the trouble of ordering from multiple shops.. We got them in now finally..

To answer your motor question, I have only flown it with the HKIII 500KV. Its really great, but I really think the 450KV with the 11T would be perfect. As soon as I get a new 90E machine to put the 500kv in, I will then be grabbing a HKIII 450kv for my 800.

A Scorpion 5020-450 works very well in this application

Though with the frame set your using, not 100% sure of the fit.

I thought about going with a large motor but to be honest, its just going to suck more mah, and shorten the flights. I am happy with the HKIII and would not want or need any more than that. I beat the snot out of my machine when it was a 700 and that motor was amazing. But im sure its a grunter with that size can.

I'm actually using less amperage as an 800 than I was as a 700. the headspeed and gearing make it easier on the motor. My ESC was getting up to 190f+ with 693's, its around 30-40 degrees cooler on average with the 800's. So a larger motor is not needed. It has to do with disc loading I believe.

Hey thanks guys for the input. I want to also consider here that with these frames. I may have to use smaller packs to get the COG right. I just want to make sure I can get some decent flight times with the motor I choose.

Dave, can you get the HKIII 450kv? I didnt see it on your website.

Well I just verified that 2 Zippy 40C 5000's will NOT fit under the stock Align canopy. Just wondering if they would if need to balance out the 800 boom. I did try my Logo 600SE canopy and the batteries do fit under that. Might have to do a custom Align CHP 800 canopy just for looks. All up weight was 11 lbs on the 40C 5000 Zippies ready to fly. Going to my Gens Ace 4000's is going to drop the weight down to to 10 lbs 1 oz......that is just going to be wild once I get this thing up in the air. That was adding 5 oz to the weight in for the Castle 120 HV which I plan to run since the 80HV went up in flames. I suppose my actual weight might vary.....Crazy other thing is this heli is shorter than my logo 600SE which has always been the shortest heli I have owned. The smallest I have seen was the Compass 6HV but I think this 800 might compare to that???

Have you checked the COG with the 5000's? Im curious to know if it will be real nose heavy. I can handle using a logo canopy. I did notice after building the airframe how much shorter it looked than the Align frame.

It appears without the weight of the esc it's balances right on right now. I'll prolly put the esc on the side in a neutral point if I use the 5000's or move it forward and run the 4000's. Read; Velcro and a strap! I don't want to put the CC 120 under the batteries in case there is a fire.....Just saying! I'll put the CC bec under the batteries instead. Actually I'm thinking asbestos shield around the esc just in case. :-P Ventilated battery bag maybe?

Come on Tom. What are the odd's that CC esc will go up in flames. Now im wondering if I should mount my esc in a more neutral location also. Im not worried about a fire but the COG. I'll just have to check it and see once its together. I have an old CC pheonix 110 that I ran on my 700e for the last couple years. It should do the trick.

I was thinking about going to a 110 also but they are few and far between. Being that they weigh in at about 5 oz it's make sense to use it as the COG fine tuner.

When is your suspected maiden date? Where about is Streator, IL?

Im not sure when I will have it ready to maiden. Im still waiting on parts and the weather has been really windy lately. Winter is coming fast. I'll still fly if its cold and not windy. Im quite a drive from Missouri. Im at least 2 hours north of Springfield IL.

Just scored a brand new Castle 120HV V2 for 100 bux (hopefully not a fire bomb!) so my 800 will be up on it's maiden on Thursday. It just showed up today so here are some pictures ready to fly minus the esc.

11 lbs ready to fly with 12s Zippy 5000 40C batteries. 10 lbs 4 oz with my Gens Ace 4000's.

Tom, Did you end up getting the 450kv Scorpion? I thought you were running the Align motor? She's a beauty. Are those the Edge 115's on the tail?
