Dummy down 400 settings..need help
So its the middle of winter here as always for 9 months of the year and I have a question. At -30 I aint gonna try and fly outside in the snow with the polar bears!! What would be some good radio settings for the old girl I am trying to get revived so that I could use it indoors in the shop? Throttle curve? Pitch curve? Expo? any thing else?
I was thinking can it actually be brought down to more of a fixed pitch heli?? Thoughts and ideas gladly accepted!! |

Is say that depending on where you are in your flying progression I'd leave throttle and pitch curves alone and use dr & expo to modify the feel.
If your heli is stock, with a flybar, then you could try adding some weights to the flybar (fixed wing wheel collets work well). This will give you greater stability. If your FBL then leave the d/r alone and adjust the agility/stability - depending on the type of FBL unit you're using, this may have different names. Another thing you could look at is the cyclic pitch range, drop it to 4-5*? (Not to be confused with collective pitch +/-11*ish. A few thoughts. It's a bit suck it and see though as it all depends on what's comfortable for you. Hope this helps. B

Put the MD500 scale body on it...tames it down nicely.

You could give these throttle & pitch curves a try as well (published by an actual helicopter pilot & author):
Throttle: 0-70-80-90-100 Pitch: 35-50-65-80-95 Expo: 25-30% on AILE, ELEV & RUDD. Do not even think of doing anything inverted with these curves, but for stress free putt'ing around upright in tight quarters they work quite well, assuming your heli is setup normally of course (+/- 10° collective pitch). -John |

Anyone have the newer dx6 settings for the b400
Looking for swash mixes, and pictures of head assembly at mid stick ( trying to level swash at mid stick. Also I know a few of you who have been flying for quite sometime have figured out a way to 'tilt the swash' to compensate drift on take off can anyone explain that to me a little better. I appreciate any help!!! |

Bump.
I recently purchased a B400 with a scale A-109 fuse. I am struggling trying to get this heli set-up in my DX6 NG.

What are you having problems with? I don't have a 6,but the 400 uses fairly simple settings. Not saying I can help for sure, but its worth a shot.

Try setting it up as 3 servo 120 and using swash mixing. You will probably need to reverse the elevator channel too. For swash mixing try both + and - 60-80% on Ail, Ele, and Pitch (keep them all the same either + or -) .. find what works.

Success??
I think I got it guys.
At least this seems to agree with the B-400 manual. Pitch stick forward - Swash drops Pitch stick back - swash raises Left aileron - Swash drops left Right aileron - Swash drops right Elevator forward - swash tilts forward Elevator back - swash tilts back If this is correct, I'll start a new thread about the DX6 NG and a AR610 receiver. There are enough differences between the older and newer Spekkies to get confusing.

BrokeDad's comment about keeping the swash mix all + or all - struck a chord. Most times it seems to be listed as Ail / Ele + and Pitch -, or vice-versa. I got the pitch right and then adjusted from there. Thanks again Freaks.

Glad you got it sorted out. Setting up a FB head can be a real PIA for those not used to dealing with the mixing aspect and channel reversing. It's made me want to throw one across the room many times in frustration.

I am really looking forward to re-building this FB head and flying this heli.
Once I get things sorted out, then I'll put the scale A-109 fuse on her. (I'm thinking of naming her "Heather". Thanks jtrout )
