Default How do you think the 300X handle the wind?

Currently I'm learning to fly on an 120SR but am thinking about what my next heli will be once I'm ready for the next step.

The 300X has captured my interest due to it's size, cost, and being FBL, but I live in a fairly breezy area, far too breezy to fly the 120 outside on most days. Do you think the 300 size will be able to handle 5-10 mph winds fairly well (providing my piloting skills increase of course), or should I look at a larger heli like the 450 or 500?

MCPX. Then get a 300x. I went mcpx then T-rex 250. worked for me. A CP bird is a different animal. A MCPX will be more forgiving to learn stuff on.

Agree, id get a mcpx, they really do handle the wind well once you learn some collective management. They're so durable, and if something does break its really cheap and non time consuming to fix. Then id move up to a 300x or bigger.

Yes, the 300x will easily handle 5-10mph winds. As others have mentioned, the mCPX can also easily handle winds even in the 15mph range, and with a bit of flying skill 20mph..

Like others have posted, go for the mCPx next to learn collective pitch flying.. Then you can make the decision of your next heli, whether it be a 130x, 300x, or 450x..

Yupp, flew my helis up to 50-70km/h gust max before from mcpx to my 500, fbl gyros nowadays have no problem coping with the wind as long as you have the reflexes to handle it.

I agree. I don't have a 500 to comment on but my mcpx and 450x particularly are fine. I have little problem doing big air sport type stuff with the 450 even in 20mph-ish winds although the wind does cause me to keep it further off the deck while doing so to have time to react to gusts. Landing can keep you on your toes but I assume the 300 will be close enough to that to be fine once you are used to it.

You're worried about 5-10mph wind?!

I've flown my MCPX in 28mph wind It hovers steady at a 45 degree angle. hahaa

I would get the MCPX to learn CP on.

Now I'm no beginner so for what it's worth.......

I flew the 300x this weekend in wind and besides a little bobbing in forward flight, I really didn't feel the wind at all.

You'll be just fine with that much wind while flying the mcpx, 130x, and especially the 300x and 450x. All of those will be much better than the 120sr.
