Default Going FBL!

Well, I have traded and deal my way to what I need to go FBL.

I have some Savox SC-0352 on the way to replace the old analog Futaba's on my cyclic.

Traded some 450 servos for a FBL unit, it is a Turnigy V-Bar 600 (V3.0), which is a re-branded SJGD FS600 which I have done some looking into and seems to be a solid unit.

I even got a stepdown on the way for my Futaba S9253 so it won't fry when I jump the BEC to 6V.

All I need to do is convert the head to FBL. I am planning to take a spare FB cage part and cut them. Drill a hole at an angle into the blade grip and epoxy the FB cage part into the hole. This should give the proper distance for the link.

Agreed - all you need is the extended balls for the swash grip and a swash driver (Align or Gaui) total cost about $40, or if you are sticking with 425 blades you could even buy the Tarot 500 head for about $40

Drilling the grips is a bad plan. The extention balllink that screws directly on the grips is super cheap.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ss_Grips_.html
Then you need a swash-follower that bolts to the mainshaft. Its around $15 from Gaui iirc.
Read somewhere it is a good idea to run the metal washout guide assembly on the bottom of the main rotor yoke instead of the plastic one. not sure why thou. With all those mods your looking at ~$30/$35.

A metal 500 size FBL head is even nicer if you stay with 435mm blades. (500mm+ wont fit in them)
It gives a slightly larger disk (grips further apart) and looks really good on the Gaui.

I got this one, but mine is un-branded

Looks really good. fits perfectly. and flies really well. I could go absolutely berserk on pitch ranges. Arount +15/-15 collective and 16cyclic. I limited both at 12 degrees max. Just an estimated guess of what feels right.

This one also looks nice to me, but i am not in need of another head at the moment.

Something this big can hurt or kill someone so it's best to be careful and do it right without modifications.

I have asked around, someone local has a 500 size FBL head he is looking to sell, I may be able to do this high class.

Here is a thread Vas did a while back with a very detailed explanation of converting to FBL using Gaui X4 and X5 head parts.

The extensions came in, they look good.

The FB swash follower will work fine without the rest of the head if you can keep it from sliding down and falling off the two rods that keep it rotating with the head. I drilled two holes and put grub screws in them to keep it in place.

Every thing is assembled, I just need to program and set stuff up. I hope to work on that this week.

Hey, looks good!

Might do the same if i decide against the Flybar on my 520mm. Already have the controller and grips extensions at hand.

If would be even nicer to push the mainshaft further in the hub fso it sits lower, but i see it wont leave any space for the swash follower.

Inspired by the last post in the above mentioned thread, I have modded the head a bit. I bought a threaded rod and cut to length. I covered the middle with some heat shrink to dress it up a bit.

The FBL unit I traded for is beginning to behave oddly, If I can't figure it out I may just go with a Robird unit. It looks like a decent setup, I have heard it compared to a BeastX. At half the price I am considering it.

Default FBL head extension manual

Aspiring FBL converts might find this manual useful.

http://www.gaui.com.tw/html/program/...oad.asp?sn=564

If you don't mind the plastic main blade grips, it is just a 30$ head upgrade. (204707 + 204706)

I know gaui keep changing their file links, so i've attached it just in case.

Hey SQRT, are you still flying this head setup, .ie. what looks like the stock plastic grips with the Gaui fbl extensions screwed into the grips? Are there any issues with this that you have had?

I'm pondering transitioning my 550 to mid-boom and getting another G31 for the Gaui given how great my 450 is flying with that electronic marvel.

Yes, and another guy at my field has been doing it for a while too. No problems. Now I suspect breaking the blade grips in a crash may be more likely, but they are cheep.
