Back in the olden days on the wind farms......

Our 25 kw wind turbine had an airfoil that was very sensitive to bugs.

When the blades would get dirty on 200 turbines, it would create a low frequency "rumble" that carried quite a ways, plus output went down.

We had 3M tape wrapped around the leading edge that prevented wear, but the bugs and and dust still had to be softened and removed.

We tried a lot of coatings including Teflon to speed things up.

But the simplest was the easiest, don't rinse, leave the soapy coating on the blades and it was just enough of a film the little buggers didn't stick (unless their little beaks got stuck)

Would great until it rained, then we'd have to recoat.

Ok kids, that's how it was when Grandpa was your age

Now that is an idea. So far, I have just wiped my blades down with a little dishwashing liquid and water. Until now, I've always rinsed afterwards. I will try leaving the film on and see what happens. I have never really minded wiping bugs. I figured every bug on the blades is a bug not biting me. When this bird flies, BUGS DIE!

Say Mel, you have quite the wind power background. Were you before or after the Nina, Pina and Santa Maria?

I do believe... if memory serves me correctly.....

Mel educated DaVinci on his first notations of his helicopter design..

And even hand made a prototype for good ole' Leonardo to ponder over...

Default Gentlemen, We have the worlds first Bionic 800

The install of the Scorpion 5020-450 motor, KDE universal motor mount and pinion support are done!!

Last Items on the list

solder up some 5.5 power bullets on to the motor and reprogram the ICE80HV, if this pulls even close to what the American WereWolf 800 pulls in current...the 80HV should handle anything I can throw at it.

Actually, no that rearing was partly due to the way the helicopter was sitting and partly because the VBar requires a new trim flight in order to adjust to the new setup.

If it were tail heavy I would be fighting it in a hover which I wasn't.

PS ...it was her first steps today, in a few days it will be fine.

One bit of "common wisdom" is that the bigger the bird, the easier it is to fly. Looking at Night's creations, I don't know about that.
