i asked this in the main forum but no one replied so i will ask here too. i have some old(around 3 years) s1356 servos that are currently on my mini protos and behaving well but have some slop, i want to transfer them to my x2 but was wondering if a gear change will get rid of the slop or should i just replace them?

I don't know much about that servo. If it has metal gears then new gears might help. If they are plastic/nylon they usually don't get slop with age and new ones night not help.
　
You could call Futaba tech support and see if they have any advice.

they are metal geared servos. I was wondering what happens when pots go bad, I have no idea what I'm asking about just heard the term here and there

Pot going bad – jittery and sometimes does not center well. When they fail it either just stops of goes all the way to one end. They usually last for a couple of thousand flights.

If I were you I would call tech support and see what they say.
