Need help...SR tilts to right.
Hi to all. I'm a noob at Helis (have flown planes quit a bit) and need your help. While the tail is in the SR tilts to the right. I checked the balance and it looks good. I tried moving battery to the left and it seemed to help a little. I moved the trim all the way to the left and it helped more but I don"t have much servo movement left so I don"t think that's where the problem is. I'm thinking it might be in the swash plate servo arms but don't know much about it and want to check with you guys before messing around with it. It's been a problem all along and the LHS said that's normal and just go fly it. Well, it has resulted in a few miss happenings and they got to sell me more stuff, so I guess they are more happy them me. I haven't seen a posting addressing this problem and hoping someone has a solution?

Power up the heli with BOTH motors unplugged and flip the Throttle hold switch to achieve a linear 0-100 pitch curve. Set the throttle (collective) stick to halfway and check the swash to see if it's level. If it's leaning to the right the it would make sense that the swash tilts downward to the right, if you pop off the link on that side of the swash and turns the rodend CCW a turn or two and reattach an chek for level. You should be able to get it pretty close by eye. Oh yeah, center the trim before doing this.

yep sounds like you need to move your trim a few clicks in the opposite direction that it is leaning, or you can adjust the servo push rods that connect to the swash plate. unless it is really bad all you need to do is trim it out.
the trim under the right hand stick. click it a few tiems, take it back up, if it is still doing it set it down, click it a few more times take it back up and repeat till it stops leaning you should get used to that, when putting on the battery each time it not going to be centered perfectly and might throw your trim off a little bit each time. edit. i missed the part that says you moved the trim all the way to the left. if you want to do it right get your servo arms at 90 degrese when you are at half stick and than adjust all the servo push rods. or you could just adjust the one that is giving you trouble.

Are you talking about the body tilt when hovering/flying? If so that's normal.....no, really, it is. My Blade 400 hangs to the right side about 2-3 degrees when hovering as well. It freaked me out when I was learning nose in because I wanted to over-correct for that, and I finally realized that's the way it's supposed to be. Watching full scale ones hover taxiing (especially Bells) I recall the same phenomina, and they would always touch down right skid first. Hope this helps. Jake

The reason is because the tail is pushing to the left to counter act the torque, and in order to counter act that tail action, the heli needs a little bit of aileron.

Swash looks level so I guess that means it is normal. It's weird that they fly tilted to the right as much as it is. I guess it will take some getting used to.. It freaks me out as well. Do you guys do anything to compensate for the tilt (move battery opposite direction, adding weight to the left, etc.) or just fly it as is. I guess I'll get used to it in time and it won't throw me off as much. Thanks

when mine was leaning to the left it kept wanting to go to the left. no more lean and no more drifting off to the left. if there is a lean it is so slight that i dont even notice that it is there.

I would like to take the lean out of it as well, but I'm new and still learning about setups... guess it'll take some time to get it all down. Been having a great time so far, Helis are So Coooll!

I just picked up the latest issue of "R C Heli" magazine (Issue #49, August 2010), and on p.102-103 there is an article on hovering. On p. 103 there is a picture of a tail in bird showing the effect of the anti-torque rotor thrust forcing the ship into a tilt just to maintain a stationary hover. In the article it states: "You will quickly learn that a helicopter requires a certain amount of tilt to remain stationary". - Ryan Kephart, author.
As long as you realize that this is indeed normal you won't even notice it after a short time. Don't shift the batt or dial in trim, just fly. Jake

+1. i was looking for that article myself. It's a perfect example of a tail in hover with slight tilt to the right to maintain a hover.
