is it normal?!
is it normal that im finding it harder to fly my TREX 450 and easier to fly my nano cpx? i have been out with the 450 today and im finding it hard to even hover tail in. im at the point now with my cpx where im holding it in one spot tail in, nose in and side in. i have even started flying it from one end of the room to the other, turning it around and going back again. i have also managed a couple of circuits.
the trex seems really slow to react and i cant seem to hold it in one place. i have turned all of the expo down and increased the throws but its starting to frustrate me as everybody keeps saying its easier to fly bigger helis i have the weights at the ends of the flybar still, could this be my problem? it just seems like i have to put a lot of input in for it to do anything. HELP! |

You should be ale to tune the flybar to have the TRex behave mostly to your liking. Most that start nano/mCPX go DFC (FBL to FBL instead of FBL to FB).

If you really like how the nano flys, take the flybar weights off the 450. They severely inhibit performance, in terms of agility.
Also, it depends on which model trex 450 it is. Is it new or used? How old is it? Which model? That could make a difference. Little inconsistencies in the machine can make it unstable and hard to control, however it sounds like it's not reacting fast enough for you. So start with taking the weights off the flybar, and go from there.

It is the sport v2, i bought it from new around christmas time. I had a guy at the local club help set it up with me and i made some good progress, although i had a small crash. It has had a new main shaft and head assembly. Is there a difference between how fb and fbl fly? It has really annoyed me as it feels like i have gone backwards progress wise.

I have had it out again today after removing the flybar weights and it just feels really unstable. I can hover it but it is bouncing about all over the place.

Just weighted flybar, or paddles? Flybars do need tuning / balancing.

It has plastic paddles, the weights slide over the bar but i have removed them. Its made it more responsive but its still all over the place. I cant really explain it, it feels like i cant make fine adjustments like the nano, its just really clumsy

The paddles must be dead level (or at worst, the same very slight angle). The slightest bit out from this causes instability. They must be the same distance from the main rotor shaft. They must have the same weight. They must have the same COG. They must have the same profile (so they react the same as each gets into the wind and needs to adjust the blade angles).
Once you tune them right the heli will be both stable and responsive. This is where flybars are hard (and FBL is easy). As you found, with the weights on it was stable and unresponsive (as the FB was fighting movement).

not that it matters now but you can also move the weights in towards the main shaft. the further out the weights are the more stable and thus more sluggish

Mate, keep a 450 around if you can. Once you get going they are great 'beater' aircraft for learning new stuff on. IMHO.
The problem you have/had doesn't sound like its flybar related to me. It's far more likely to be in the Tx setup.

It sounds like it might be the FBL head that you're liking better in the hover. Imagine if your T-REX 450 was also FBL like the nano, it will be way more stable.
I was flying my 450 DFC earlier today in light/moderate wind and it almost sits there in the hover... each orientation is very easy to hold.

after the Trex 450 DID NOT sell on ebay I have decided to keep it. I have been looking at a lot of videos on youtube regarding setting up the flybar and today I had a go ( I feel really stupid now as I didn't really know how to use a pitch gauge properly). the results are fantastic, the heli is a lot more stable and controllable. I even had it side in which I could not do before. I think the nano helped a lot with that. I have sort of found a new level of confidence but I am yet to hover nose in.
I have a bit of a fear problem, but its not damaging the heli its more losing control and injuring myself, so im just taking It slow. |

Experimented with head speed today, from 70% to 85% and found the 450 way more stable and it was reacting to my inputs a lot better, just need to buil up the courage to take it nose in now lol

Yes it is normal. You should quit your habit before you trying to flying another different one.
I had the same problem sometimes ago.I could not fly my art-tech after I flying my Nine Eagles Bravo. |
