CopterX 3X-1000 Bricked
Anyone else brick a 3X-1000 after the firmware update?
Have the USB dongle and was setting up via the PC. Everything was going great, once I figured out the com port thing. Saved the profiles and everything. Once I concluded all was good, time to try the firmware update to 2.1, the official one off of Copter-X's website. Did the almost impossible update dance of unplug power, push the microscopic button in with one hand and plug in the power with the other. Voila, progress bar moving and after a minute, got the "Update Succesful" pop-up. Rebooted and the 3X-1000 is dead, no lights at all. CRAP. But, just so happens I had 2 brand new 3X-1000's and 2 dongles. Maybe I had a bad controller or dongle. Did the update on the second new controller, using the 2nd new dongle, and now I have 2 dead 3X-1000's. Tried flashing them both back to early firmware (yes, they will power up to red LED when booted with button pushed in and seem to flash), but are completely dead if not powered up with button pushed in. If anyone has seen this before and know of a fix, I would love to hear it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, before I get asked: 1. Yes, my ESC is putting out a solid 5.1 VDC 2. Have tried this on multiple ESC's with same results. 3. Have tried this with multiple receivers and same results 4. Have tried this with 2 different xmitters bound to receivers with same results. Remove the 3X-1000 from the equation and the recievers drive the servos just fine. |

I've heard of a few incidents like this and the solution was to flash it with Tarot ZYX firmware. Note that this is permanent - once flashed to Tarot ZYX, the 3x-1000 cannot be flashed back with any CopterX firmware and it will no longer work with the CX field programming box.

I don't have the "Field Programmer", since the copter hasn't even made it off the build table yet. So again, nothing to lose. Thanx again. Bill |

Dr. M.
Thank You so much for the guidance. Flashing the Tarot ZYX firmware rev 350.bin brought the CopterX 3x-1000 controllers back from the dead.... Woo Hoo. Was ready to but new FBL controllers. Now I don't have to, just yet, anyway. Thanx Again |

Glad it worked. Now you'll need to use the Tarot software to program your gyro.
