There is nothing in the OP's original post about a bec or a rx pack just that he was using HV servos. I don't remember seeing any thing in the pics suggesting a bec, so I'll have to look back at the pics. Some more of a description or pics might be helpful. If it was a bec I suspect that it might have carbon smell or burnt transistor smell about it.

Looks like a rx pack was used as there appears to be a EC3 connector at the bottom of the the 1st pic, but that may have just been on the bench at home. The more I looked at the ESC the more it appeared to have suffered impact damage, but what I see may just be the plastic curled during the fire pulling external parts around. The large black burn mark on the control board may have been from the + lead pulling off of the connector and then touching the board after impact causing the fire. But definitely not enough to go on here.

The ICE2 doesn't have a built-in BEC, so there has to have been an external BEC or RX pack.

Thanks for all your replies. I was traveling and didn't have time to access the forum. The ICE 2 HV does not have a BEC so I have an external one. The AR7200BX is supplied with a Turnigy Nanotech 3.0 A Lipo battery which was nearly full (roughly 8.2 V)

Also, as I stated in my original message, about 20 feet away was found the heat sink with black burn marks inside suggesting that the failure happened in flight; the ESC burns, melts the leads to the RX and creates a spike taking out servos or the RX itself - which would explain the loss of control. It hits the ground, as a result of the impact the now charred heat sink is expelled from its housing. By the time I arrive 30 second later the ESC is still smoldering. If the ESC were damaged as a result of the impact, then why are there black burn marks inside the heat sink? The impact would immediately separate the heat sink from the housing (remember, it was found 20 feet away - and extremely hot. The guy who found it almost burned his hand) leaving not enough time to create a burn mark.

What is a v-spike?

Thanks for all your ideas!

Voltage spike that might occur along with high amps if the bec gets an internal short. Is the extenal bec still good?
