What's a good cheap video camera for a 450?
Hey guys - after reading a lot of the threads in this forum (most of which include some really good video from people who are clearly serious about it...), I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question...
What's a good, cheap video camera I can strap on a 450? I'm not looking for production-quality stuff here, just the ability to take some decent (HD, preferably) shots from an aerial platform.

Some have mounted GoPro cameras on theirs. I did.

Putting my GoPro on my Trex 450 as soon as I learn to fly it.

That Sony looks more in line with what I'm looking for, I think. When I say "cheap", I mean under $100...
Any other good alternatives?

I bought a "HD Wing" camera from Hobbyking. I've posted a few videos from it on my youtube channel youtube.com/baldric450
My mcpx can fly around with it so a 450 will have no bother at all. Best thing is they are only $35 or there abouts, although I would recommend at least a class 6 microSD card to avoid dropped frames. My 8gb card gets somewhere around an hour of recording. It even comes with a cable to connect the camera to a TV for lower resolution playback to test your video, without requiring a PC! Edit: here's a video from my mcpx [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuXyGE7hEfQ[/ame] |

Cool - do you have a picture of how you have that mounted on the MCPX?

Sure, although as you'll see, I wouldn't need a thousand words to describe this picture haha.

Looks like one of those photos from a viral email titled, "There, I fixed it." http://thereifixedit.failblog.org/ If it works, who cares what it looks like. No one watching the video will see the rig that shot it.

I have my go pro on my tree 450. Btw I'm still learning figure 8's ;-) Got some great pics and videos though. Vibration is an issue of course when doing videos on a 450, but this is just for fun so no problem. I attached one of the clip-on mounts that came with the GoPro to the bottom of the battery tray of the 450 sport. Didn't even bother to move the battery itself somewhere else for better CG, as it still flies quite well and is controllable. Of course if I were to let go of the sticks, it would tip forward slowly.

The electricians tape works wonders. I even use it to mount that camera (with a pad of "moon-gel" underneath to kill vibes) straight onto my 600, either on the tail boom, facing the swash from on top of the battery or pretty much where ever I want. |
