Just bought a Mini Titan

Hi Everyone.
I just picked up a good deal on a new Mini Titan, so you will be seeing me around regularly.

Here is what I plan on running:
XYX Flybarless unit.
HSG-5084 tail
HS-5065 cyclic
YGE 60A ESC.
hk-2221-6(I think I should have went with the -8 though)
3s 2200 Mah


Still figuring out which route I want to take on the FBL head.. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've decided to get a 2221-8 motor.
What pinion/headspeeds are ya'll running?

I'm running 12T but I like lower head speeds (still up to 3100RPM on ~3500KV motor). Some people run it with 13T.

YGE is quite good and you should find programming card and program governor to your liking.

BTW 60A is oversized for 450 heli - the same is used with Protos - 500 size heli with double the rotor disc and double the weight! If you went with 40A that would be more than enough...

I run my 2221-8 on a 13T and with 2600 governed on a ICE 50.

Last year I ran 3500kV with 11T (2500-2900 est. RPM) on my plastic head MT.

This year on my two new MTs (metal heads) I'll be running 3700kV with 11T (2700- 3100 est. RPM).

I know that it is oversized, but it's laying around here not getting any use. Better to be too big than too small??

Yep.. have the program card too. Used it to set up my Protos 500.

I've been running the HKII-2221-6 with a 12t pinion. Ice 50 governed with crazy HS of 3300. Its a lot of fun. But I wouldn't try those head speeds on a stock plastic head.

I'm shooting for 3000 rpms, so I'll start with 14t and maybe bump it up to 15t and 3200. I just double checked with the seller, and it is the carbon fiber, cnc version.

Is there a flybarless conversion kit so I can use the stock metal head and grips or do I need to get a full flybarless head like a Tarot or RJX?

There's no conversion kit out yet, although TT have shown it at Nuremburg toy fair and there's pics of the brochure somewhere in here. I reckon by the end of the year it'll be out, but until then it's RJX etc.

If your going with the HK-2221-8 and your 2200 mAH bats. You should be able to hit your target HS with a 13T pinion no problem.

Will there be any problems running that headspeed(3000) with a 14t?

No it will run it on 14T but you'll have to govern it back to get it that low. And those Scorpion motors run their best and most efficient at near max output. Pinions are cheep you would be better off getting a verity (12-13-14T) and playing with them to find the target HS you fill comfortable with.

The used motor I picked up on the forums is supposed to be coming with a 14t.

Ya that set should be just fine. The motor your getting has a 3.17mm shaft. The 0.5M is for that shaft size. Just for reference these are the pinions that I've been running. http://www.readyheli.com/05M-317mm-S...er_c_5054.html .
I'm guessing the motor your getting is coming from an Align T-Rex 450 heli? They use a 121T main gear on those and that's probably why it has a 14T on it. Your new Mini Titan will have a 150T main.

I actually asked if he had and extra pinion in that size.(he prolly had it because he had a trex450).. I used this pinion calc and it told me that I would need a 14T for 3000rpms. http://www.heliguy.com/MotorPinionCalculator.html

All these HS calculators are pretty similar. Heli Guy,s states " Most are appprox 80% e.g. 80" witch is a fairly conservative #. If you bump that number up just one (81%) you will see it go to a 13T pinion.

The way I determined witch pinion to use to get the HS I was after was by temps. I tried different ones and set up my HS with a optical tack and governer settings. Get the number I was looking for. Then put it up in IU 1 for a full 5 min. flight. Then check motor and ESC temps as soon as I landed. I found that running a flat 90% TC so that there was some head room for the governor. And letting the motor run at close to 100% output under load. It would always come down cooler than if I tried dialing it back.
