Ah, if you had come along to Weston Park you would know why!!

Let's just say there was some cool synchro night-flying (with KoK blades) going on.

Hopefully Grant will bring them along this weekend coming?

Out of 5 of them I only have 1 working right now The rest have met the ground.

I hope to have most of them up and running again though in the mean time if i ever get home from work earlier than midnight! Just checking the forum as I'm packing up from work now

I'll certainly get one programmed up for night flying though

Well I'm not sure why you would have 5, but I look forward to finding out at the FFFD.

Why is it my list never seems to get shorter??

Put the tail on the 450 last night. Just as I hooked the belt over the drive pulley, I noticed I'd managed to put a screw through a servo wire when I replaced the frame side a couple of weeks ago

Tried re-soldering last night, but it's a bit tricky being so close to the frame. Will have to pull the lower AIL servo out so I can get good access. Anyone done this before and have some tips??

A little embarrassing - but at least I noticed it now and should be able to fix it for this weekend!!!

Imho you need to cut, re-solder and shrink tube all 3 wires now, Denis.

Finally adjusted the +/- pitch on my mCPx that was never properly flown, and hovered the whole battery in the hotel room adjusting D/R and expo. Now that it hovers fine, will take it to the park tonight or tomorrow, it feels too zippy for indoors.

Tried to fly mCPx on Phoenix and couldn't do it even if my life depended on it, anyone else has the same experience? Any tips on making mCPx usable in Phoenix?

Just don't use it. I've tried numerous different sets of settings for it, none of them feel right. The mcpx on phoenix is a real let down.

Finally completed Odin II FBL conversion and test hovered it, and so went on to other, very different, things...

This is the most recent occupant of the work bench:

Approximately 1958 Wen Mac A-24 Banshee. This was purchased inexpensively, used, and heavily damaged from EBay. Most of the body posts had to be rebuilt, the wing is fiber glassed together, and the motor had been replaced with a later Testors motor (the original motor had rust damage to the inside of the cylinder.

The motor runs well and the machine should be flown within the next few weeks (after I figure out how not to get dizzy after not flying U-Control in about 37 years).

There is one problem with this scale model: the original had machine guns and the cannon synchronized with propeller, but how will you prevent the cannon from shooting straight into the engine's cylinder ???

Kerh, you can clearly see they are either side of the head. Ah, the cannon, I see. I think it's pointing to the left a bit. Kind of makes shooting hard, but like he says he's gonna be dizzy anyway.

Cheers

The thing that looks like a cannon is actually supposed to be the bomb site, however, it still points directly to the engine cylinder, which would also be problematic!

The original site is almost always broken on these (as the one was), as it serves to hold the canopy down in the front. This one is made from brass tubing (I have a "NOS" one in the package, but did not want to use it as it will probably get broken in service.

Next project will be conversion of a TT Raptor 50 to FBL via a Compass Head and BeastX (probably no guns or bomb sites on that one, but you never know...).

Pulled the servo with damaged wire off the 450 yesterday. Now got it re-soldered and patched up with some heat shrink. Very fiddly job with those small wires, but I'm happy to put back on now.

Just a little annoyed with myself for putting the screw through it in the first place, and having to pull it apart even more, but at least I can get on with putting back together now.

Should have it ready by end of week, so looking forward to getting this big job finished and back home in a few more days!!

Not on my bench yet, but perhaps very soon...

Someone in my neighborhood sells an original Schluter Bell Huey Cobra, he will show it to me tomorrow night. Dieter Schluter is the grandfather of all RC helis in fact, and this was his very first commercial model. It looks to be in decent condition, just a bit dusty, and is very complete, even with the old motor (not flown in 20 years…), some spare parts and blades, the 2 original boxes and all the plans.

I know where to get some parts to restore it in perfect condition (like for example helioldie.de), and I’m very tempted to get it. I simply love vintage helis, and this one is considered to be the very first RC heli that was commercially available. Fixed pitch, no gyro, etcetera...you know, lol. Sure, this is not one of the first 50 original handmade Schluter helis of course (which cost an arm and a leg), but the mass production batch made by Schuco-Hegi for Schluter, dating from 1973 to 76. Even then, it would make a nice show model, after a bit of work, perhaps even a new paint job and so.

Look what someone did with such a heli, for example:

Raf, that is one sweet heli. Are you going to put gyro in it? Don't do anything on the paint. Leave it in original paint.

I still have MFA Sport 500 I bought in 1999. Never really flown, not even hover. Have a mechanical gyro. I would not bother to fix it, because I have to buy new servo. I don't think servo that old would still good.

If I would buy it, I’d probably pay some attention to the fuselage and mechanics first, without worrying much about flying it. It’s more like a collectors item to me. The perfect shelf queen, lol. If the paint is in fairly good condition, I won’t touch it indeed.

Perhaps afterwards, I would start looking to make it fly again, but I don’t worry about it now. With a gyro in that case, yes, it would be a shame to crash it. Even if this is kinda cheating. You won’t notice it from the outside anyway.

And I love your MFA Sport 500 !!!

Lol, no V-Bar for this baby, it has to remain in original condition.
I even won't put an electric motor in it, the original nitro, clutch and gearbox will be cleaned and used again. It doesn't need to fly, as far as I am concerned, only be as authentic as possible.

It was raining a lot down here, so I started cleaning, grinding, polishing, greasing, replacing rusty nuts and bolts, etcetera... Everything was covered with a brownish, very old mixture of dust, fuel and some sort of varnish, it took me a lot of time.

These are the first pieces that are done: the skids, the original fixed pitch head, and the 750 mm asymmetric wooden main blades:
