Question about a Jazz 40-6-18
I recently picked up a used, condition unknown, Jazz 40-6-18 5F4 ESC.
After I program it for mode 1 (default) and then for mode 4 (heli), and then attempt to spin up the motor, it will run for 1 second, then stop, and 6 flashing led signal lights are showing. I have tried to reset it in mode 1 and reprogram several times, but always get the same one second motor run then 6 lights. I can't get it to work in any mode. Is the unit toast? |

According to the jazz manual, 6 flashes is an internal error. It says to disconnect the battery and start again.
Is this on a known good motor, or have you tried another motor? Is your throttle curve normal? Maybe swap motors and test, but not looking good. |

Busted ESC I guess. I sent an email to Kontronic. Do they still service the older units? Is it worth repairing? |

New finding: If I goose the throttle with rapid stick movements to keep the motor running during the brief startup, I can keep it running, but once the can stops spinning, I get the 6 LEDs.
I tried with an align 450mx 1700KV motor, 500MX motor and a KDE 450 6s motor. Same issues. I wrote Kontronics and they suggested perhaps changing the timing on the ESC. I need to get hold of a ProgCard I for that. Any other ideas? |
