Hints on changing the front drive gear bearing?
So I'm hunting down a vibration on the X5 and I decide to inspect the front drive gear for the first time in a while. The ball bearings drop all over the floor as soon as I pull the shaft!
So I need to change the front drive gear bearing ( the bearing for the gear which is driven by the autorotation gear and has an umbrella gear on its top ) Anyway to do this without pulling off a side?

Just take a small Phillips take the screw out of the gear , then use a small flat head and pry it up gently it is a tight spot to work in , did that the other day

You need to pull the plate out and heat the plate to get the new bearing in. I took out both plates and did mainshaft bearings at the same time. It's the worst job to do on the X5 IMHO.

Its the bearing for the spur gear. The spur gear being the one that the front umbrella gear also mounts two.
The bearing is number 208760 and goes in the bottom plate in that raised spot for the bearing.

I know what bearing you mean.
You have to do it correctly as if it doesn't seat perfectly your TT mesh will be way off and you'll eat TT gears.
