Arrow Time to build something awesome!

Bought the last piece in the puzzle that will be my Hurricane 425.
I think I got the last one we'll ever see for $80.

I went mostly with the cheaper stuff.

Hitec HS 485's cyclic
Align 620 tail
Turnigy 500 motor (1800KV)
Turnigy Trust 70 amp with program card.
13 t pinion
60 t front gear
Spartan Quark Outrage Edition
Turnigy 9X radio (80 to 85 % Thr.)

I'll watch all the build vids and take it slow and enjoy my first "new" build.
I don't think you will see such a bargain again, al least not from Gaui.
Cheers!

Enjoy the new build.

A couple of tips from someone that owns 4 Gaui 425/550's.
Make sure to get the offset correct on the servo arms. Only use one washer on the one-way shaft, and put it below the OWB. Don't put grease on the OWB, just a couple drops of ATF will work fine.

Now, here is something that I also do that I haven't heard of others doing, but it is a real time saver in the future. The bearings on the one-way shaft are small and prone to failure, and, you have to split the frame to replace them. I use a dremel and remove the tiny bit of plastic flange on the frame, below the upper bearing, and above the lower bearing. That way, when the bearings need changed you can just remove the grub screws from the front gear, pull the OW shaft out through the bottom, loosen the frame screws near the bearings, then push the top one down, and the bottom one up to remove them from the frame without splitting it.

To keep everything properly lined up and in place during assembly, I use both washers on the OW shaft, then after tightening all the frame screws I slide the shaft part way down, then remove the upper washer and slide the shaft back up. Saves a lot of time when you need to replace those bearings later.

Oh, the 13T pinion might not give you enough head speed for the tail to hold good. Might want to also pick up a 14T in case you need a little more head speed after the maiden.

Thanks Jerrymac,
I used the interactive headspeed calc posted on the 550 thread.
The only prob will be too much headspeed with that motor. Someone tested the motor
and said it's closer to 1900 KV Yikes! Besides, I'm using a 6 s. batt. 22 volt
My only option beside gearing it down is to limit the throttle to around 80 to 85%
I'm keeping my eye out for a 1400 KV in case this Turnigy is too much.
Then I can consider a more standard ratio.

If its really 1900KV then your fine and I think you will hit 2300rpm. It would depend on your flying style if that would be enough.

I run a head speed of around 3000rpm on both of my 425's and they fly awesome at that head speed. The only draw back is somewhat short flight times. I only get about 3:30 min flights with 6s 2650's.

By contrast, my medium boomed, HeadHunter framed Hurri, running 500mm blades flys just as great at 2400rpm and I get 4:30 min flights on it with the same batteries.

The 425 just doesn't seem to fly all that well with low head speeds. The collective is mushy and the tail doesn't hold well with the stock 70mm tail blades. At lower head speeds the tail holds much better when using the 79mm tail blades from the Hurri 550.

Just my
