This one is the best power supply for that charger.
I make this with less than $50.00 and provide 48V 2200W 45Amps and works perfect. |

looks good but i would make that cable a lot shorter your going to lose a lot of voltage unless you use a really big wire
maybe 1/3 the length it is now would be safer

It's going to take a lot longer wire to lose voltage. IF there was a voltage loss over that length, it'd be so small and wouldn't make a difference.

well still going to get hot when that charger is sucking down 70amps

Next generation charger! Future proof?
The cable is gauge 10. I don't think will be a problem. Actually I think is overkill

Since we’re talking about the 4010 I wanted to take a moment and give kudos to ProgressiveRC. I had an issue with my 4010 and they went way above and beyond what most would consider reasonable to resolve it for me. So, if you want one, give them a call!!

● Input voltage range: 9.0—50.0VDC ● Maximum input current limit: <65A ● Maximum charge/discharge current: 70A@Syn. Mode 40A@Asyn. Mode ● Maximum charge power capacity: 2000W (Channel 1400W @input > 23.5V) ● Maximum discharge power capacity: 200W (Channel 130W) ● Maximum regenerative discharge power capacity: 2000W (Channel 1400W) ● Maximum extern discharge power capacity: 3200W (Channel 1600W @40V/40A) ● Maximum current drain for balancing: 2.4A@Syn. Mode 1.2A@Asyn. Mode There's a lot of "Maximums" there, but you just have to plug the numbers in to Ohm's Law. I found a site where you can plug numbers in to get suggested wire sizes for DC applications, which can be found here: http://www.solar-wind.co.uk/cable-sizing-DC-cables.html I choose the 1% to see the biggest size wire you need. SO, if max input is 65A, I am going to assume that's at 48VDC (from the power supply that I got coming for mine), using Ohm's Law: that's 3120 watts of power from the power supply to the charger, but my power supply is only 2000 watt. Now, from the specs, I plug those values in from the link posted above, using 1% loss to find the biggest wire I would need and I am going to use 1m of cable, I should use 6mm^2 or 9AWG. I've never heard of 9 so I'd go with 8AWG. BUT, my power supply is only 2000 watts. 2000 watts at 48 volts is 41.666A. I plug that into the formula, I need 4mm^2 or 11AWG, which there is no 11AWG so I'd go with 10AWG, which someone stated that is what it comes with. But that's maximum. Are you really going to bridge the 2 channels together and try to output 70A from the charger? (I put 22.2Vs in @70A in to that formula page, and that would requite 6AWG wire from the charger!!! I know that is not the size of wire coming from the charger. Even if you had a parallel board, I haven't seen any rated for more then 40A. So if you were charging at maximum everything, I'd be more worried about the cabling or size wires coming from the charger going to the batteries more then anything. That's where the highest current will be. I hope I got everything, my power cut out right in the middle of typing this. Some times it's good to be an electrician, as I can work on my own stuff, but when everyone else finds out, they want you to fix their stuff till they find out how much it costs to fix things. |

Without adequate expertise to explain it nor defend it, I'm biased to a PS with APS. The idea is to limit greatly the output required of my generator. Scavenged PS don't tend to have it. The Chargery 1200S does, and I love that unit; hoping it doesn't fail considering it's not that expensive.

Never met a modern PC power supply (server or otherwise) from a decent manufacturer (dell certainly qualifies) with a PF worse than .98. New, those supplies likely cost $3-500. They are really cheap because they are for superseded servers and are now effectively useless. Or because they are 2nd hand stock.

Ok, cool. Thanks. I do have a PS made of a pair of network switch PS. Is there a way to check/confirm whether they have APFC?

I'm no PS expert, and I may be drawing conclusions between two unrelated things. If so, my apologies
But I believe that, if your PS has a physical switch to set the input for either 110V or 220V, it likely does not have APFC. My PS has APFC, and does not have that physical switch. It simply figures it out. Sorry if I have this wrong.

Priced out and above my needs
I see that icharger is priced at $350.00 on Amazon.
That's way above and beyond my call of duty. Then you'll need a nice Honda Whisper Quiet generator to power it at the field. Honda Whisper Quiet & EU 2000I Generators EU 2000 I Super Quiet Generator represents the leading edge of portable power technology. For required power up to 2000 watts, these totally enclosed, super quiet generators are ideal for their portability due to their reduced weight. 2000 watts (16.7 A) of Honda inverter 120V AC power* Super quiet - 53 to 59 dB(A) Lightweight (less than 47 lbs.) Eco-Throttle - Runs up to 15 hr on 3.78litres/1 gal. of fuel Cold Climate Technology* Chas

Another important thing to factor in.. if you fast field charge.. you can save much more than the cost of the charger and deep cycles by only needing 2 flight packs (per heli) to fly all day long

Putting it to work!
First photo juicing up one lipo in the new stickpack. Next photo.. lipo 1 charging lipo 2. Reverse and repeat 5 times. Pack broken in.. fast!

Pete, are you sure those charge leads are big enough gauge wire?

LOL.. it is a repair job.. 8AWG.. from a jumper cable.. I might buy a fresh one.. it is pretty sloppy.
