Trex 500 vs Hurri 425

Hey guys. I am interested in Gaui and want to experiance this "grin" all of you rave about


What are the differences between the two models?
What makes one better than the other?

...Here are a few reasons:
More gearing choices with different motors and kv ratings...
Servo size choices...
You can leave it a 425/430 blade or go to a mid boom with 500/525 blades or go to a long boom with 550/600 blades....
Those are just a few, but they fly really well and are easy to keep up!

+1 to all of the above. Much quiter too, AND you will be one of the few to have a cheap, yet quality helicopter.

That grin thing is a little awkward... i dont say i dont have one after a flight, but that is not really brand related. I might change my opinion when i start to really fly the Hurri like i do my 450's.

I do feel the 425 is a great value. Parts are well made and cheap to replace.I still can't believe i got this kit for Eur 90,- shipped (Conrad)

Upgrades i did:
X5 tail rotor hub and grips assembly $25 (thrust bearing make this a worthwhile upgrade)
HK600 landinggear ~$7
Boom mount for tail servo ~10 (to balance bigger lipo)

Didn't like the flybarred feel, so added:
FBL gyro $50
FBL head $35

Cons i can think off:
-Bellcranks... Direct servo to swash is just less work to set up, possible less sloppy.
-Possible issues with one-way-bearing.
-Weight.... mine are over 1,650g, that is 2,1Kg with lipo. I believe the t500 is lighter

Pro's:
-Can choose full size servos (you can re-use those if you ever want something much bigger, or stretch the kit)
-Stretch options
-Price
-Its not a trex (everyone else has one)

I love the Gaui's. If I had it to do all over I would stick with them. I crash a lot so the fixin is a lot cheaper with them. Of course the trex with a 1600kv scorpion and CI 75 Amp SC is a little much for me but the sound is .

I've just sold my 425 stretch (475) FBL. Still not entirely sure why, but I also have the 550, which I've just converted to FBL, so don't really need 2 similar helis. I wish they would hurry up and bring out the X6. I am looking for another heli, but just don't want a Trex 600. Looks like I'll go for the logo 500 super combo (£679) , unless the X6 is unveiled before the end of the week lol. I've asked Scott to email me when he has a head hunter frame available, so maybe I should just wait til then, mmmmmmmm,thought about it and ..... nahhh!

I just recently got my second HeadHunter frame. Haven't started to tear apart the donor helicopter for the build yet though. My first HH build was a mid-boom running 500mm blades and it is the best flying heli in my fleet.

This one will be 425 build. The next one will be an upgrade for my 550.
Upgrading a plastic framed Hurri to a HeadHunter frame is like buying a totally new helicopter.

Thanks sp00fman, I took your advice and am collecting a logo 500 SE on Sunday. I really wanted another Gaui, but X5 is too similar to my 550 and X7 too damn pricey. Having spoken to a few logo owners, I'm not going to be disappointed though . Finished the FBL conversion yesterday and fitted a sonix tail box, looks sweeeet, and cheaper than Gaui CNC tail. Maiden this weekend hopefully, weather permitting.

Nice one jerrymac, I'll just have to wait for a HH to become available. Knowing my luck, I'll be broke when it does . Sounds like it will be worth the wait though, thanks.

I switched from GAUI 425 to Trex 500 and never looked back....
Trex500 is capable 3D straight from the box and with GAUI you have to modify A LOT !
Second thing- that stupid gearing with million gears makes every second or third fly during tic-tocs strip main gear or OWB. With Trex 500 and Scorpion HK4015-1450kv 1770 wats motor I have unlimited power. Nothing strips, everything holds perfect, It's impossible to bog down the motor.
If you decide to go with GAUI, you need to think about different frame, since original one flexes like hell
Offcourse, If you just sport flyer and don't plan to progress to any 3D flight, then yes GAUI can handle your needs.
That's my opinion from my personal experience.
