Default Carb set up so far so good!

I only flew one tank with my new KME Carb and I thought I'd share my experience.

Install was straight forward. I pulled the motor so I could swap out the carbs. As far as hooking up the arm that hooks up to the throttle servo, I had to mark the position with a sharpie prior to cranking down the nut to set the arm on the carb. After a few tries I was able to get it close enough to 90 degrees to match up with my servo. I'm running a ds610 btw.

At factory settings, high end needle out 1.5 and low end flush, the motor would only fire up if I pinched the fuel line and after 4-5 seconds it sounded like it would load up with fuel and die. I then continued to lean out the low end needle till it would hold a smooth idle and I actually had to go in a full turn to get it going. Once going it was smooth sailing, at least for that tank. Ended up tuning the high end 1 turn out to get it really purring nice. I'm runnng 30% coolpower. I'm also using a back plate sensore for my 7100r. Did the finger test and was able to hold the bottom plate for 4-5 seconds. I know I should use a temp gun but I did not have one available. At the end of the flight I did the pinch test and it took about 4 seconds to kill the engine.

Next tank adjustments will be richening up the high end needle to about 1.25 and richening the low end needle 1/8-1/4 turn.

Just remember that this was only one tank and I do plan on doing a few more tweaks and get some temp readings to be fully comfortable with the new carb. But so far I am satisfied!

Love the new carb with smooth transitions thru midrange.
After 2 flights my settings ended up with 3/4 turn out on idle and 1.25 out on the high end with Cool Power after continuous tumbles and tic-tocks.. More tweaks to come.

The Align Pipe is OK but you will really like the Hatori SB18 you will notice the difference.

Thumbs up service #1

Well ordered my KME engine and sent in my info on there site for the new carb and soon after checked my email and the carb was ready to ship all i needed to do was send the postage cost per PayPal I stopped using paypal sometime back and it is a long store and with a not so happy ending. When I retuned Jerome's email at KME to explane that I didn't use paypal and asking how to send him the money for the shipping on the new carb. He sent me a tracking number? At frist I thought there was some kind of mistake. But this morning I checked my email and this is what he wrote me in return.

No problem, just send a check to KME for the $5.85 when you get a chance. The address in on the web site.
I already sent the carb today.
Thanks
Jerome

It hard to believe in this day and time that a company wound do something this nice. This was a frist for me and if the engine is anything like the customer service then I'm hooked.
p.s. I'm sending them a check for the shipping tomorrow. And thanks again from your new and loyal customer.

KME 110 Question, When that motor comes out on September. Can you use a 90 size pipe on it or do you need to get another pipe? Also, will the fuel consumption be better, worst or the same.

I fly the 700LE nitro with a OS 91hz engine and a Hatori SB-18 pipe. I planning to change out the motor on within the next several months. I can't decide. YS,OS or KME....

90 size pipe is perfect. It uses the same fuel consumption as the 90 size. Just like the KME 60 not more than the 55 or 56.
Thanks
Jerome

Hi, yesterday i received my kme 60(with kme carb) and have some questions about it.
I have velosity 50 with align governor.
1) I was able to start this engine first only with 1/3 (maybe some more lean) on idle needle and 1.5 on main needle else the engine load up with fuel and die. Run 2 tanks of fuel on 1800rpm. Is this normal to have 1/3 on idle needle for this motor?
2) After I run 2 tanks i try to setup 2100+rpm on main rotor, but the max rpm that the engine produce is 1820. I try w or w/o governor(thottle curve 100-100-100, max governor, run 5 tanks and can't solve the problem).End points for motor servo have normal setup-coincide with the marks on the engine. What can i do to have rpm 2100+? ( previously i have os 50 and 2200 rpm on main rotor-all fine)
3) What is the normal operating temperature for this motor?

Soulnessy,
I replyed to your e-mail you sent. But it seems your engine is still rich on the main needle. You should have no problems if you follow the directions on the e-mail i sent.
Thanks

What about bearing life???? How often should they be replaced??

How many gallons do you guys have on your KMEs??

I hate OS for the way they obviously have ignored the rear bearing issue just to collect $$$ from rebuilds this issue has caused. I am flying the align/os 55 right now only due to the fact that I won the engine in a raffle. It makes stupid power in my 600LE. I have a hearing loss so I may or may not be able to pick out the metallic sounds a failing bearing makes. If it grenades itself before I can catch the bearing going bad I will use it as a target backstop. OS will not get any more $$ from me.

I am seriously considering the KME. Whats the deal KME owners is it really that good??

Question building

I am looking at building a Pantera 50. Not sure what engine to do and found the KME at Heli Direct. Did Google search and found the KME web site. This would be my first nitro heli. Thinking of getting the Diamond 60. Should I wait to get the KME muffler when it is released? OR what would be a good muffler? Thanks

If you want to get a Pipe for the KME now get the RJX pipe it works very good.
Here is the site.
