Default Attaching heatsink question

I have a yge 160 with a heat sink which is not attached any longer

What procedure should I take to attach it before heat shrinking it again? I'm assuming some sore of paste is involved

I'm not an electronics guy, but I'll start it off.

Heat sink compound from local computer store, or thermal tape made for the same purpose. It doesn't look like it was well bonded before - I'd put a small dab on each FET so that they make full contact.

Yea, just use the paste (sparingly), since you have a good mechanical bond with the brackets.

Also, be careful when clamping on the metal heatsink not to apply to much pressure on the ESC boards. I have never owned one of these YGE heatsinks so what I say may not apply, however I have seen a guy's YGE go up in smoke because he tightened up his ESC with zip ties really tight and squashed the two boards together and they touched. When he plugged the battery in, out came the magic white smoke

I bought it used and I believe he removed the heatsink to make it fit into a Goblin airframe.

There is a thread in the YGE forum that says the heat-sink does not have to touch the FETs. There is are pictures and an explanation from YGE themselves. Personally, I would put some electrical tape between the power leads and the heat-sink.

the yge heatsink dissipate also from the sides of the board where are all negative copper layers

very important is to remember that all the heatsink is connected to negative
so be sure to never short with positive / any of motor cables
