This head design is used on MANY helis like MA, Synergy, etc.... The truth?
It doesn't freakin matter and if you try both... You will probably not notice any performance difference...

BUT... and I say BUT for a reason. I found if setup with an angle as many say to do as well as the manual, that when you give cyclic pitch you get one blade that has 1/4 more pitch that the other. Is that right? I personally think not... I think cyclic should be equal and then add gyroscopic procession into the game and it's worse....

Finally I found I could get MORE pitch range and cyclic range by doing it the way I show. If you leave the angle offset you will see a grip arm binds on the head sooner than doing it my way.

BUT and I say BUT again... I tried both ways and didn't notice a freakin bit of difference!!!

Do it my way or do it stock. Either way it will fly about the same. I prefer my way myself But in the end you won't notice a difference until you can fly like a Szabo or Krause....

Thanks alot for a verry quick reply. I trust you and respect your opinion, so I just keep it the way you did in the head setup video. :-) BTW, Im still a newbee (hover), so I dont think I would feel the difference . I will be glad when I can do sport flying.

Bob,
You mention a raptor link to replace a solid link to the blade grip on the head. I'm trying to find a link to the links. Would this be the one or can you point me to a the correct link.

Thanks in advance.

BTW really like the videos. They have taught me a lot!

Finless
Excellent build post. I'm a bit of a noob on the build side of Helicopters. Till now it’s been RTF helis only... Can anyone please tell me which servo from the Hurricane 550 plugs in to which channel on the DX7 AR7000 receiver? And secondly which ccpm swasplate setting to use?

For the front ones it does not matter which goes to which but one must go to Aileron and the other must go to aux 1 (pitch). The rear servo must go to Elevator.

One step closer to getting of the ground...

And which CCPM swasplate setting to use? (90 or 120)

You would use the 120 deg. swash setting on the Hurricane.

Hi, I purchased a Hurricane 550 today with the CF Frame and CNC Head, I also purchased a Gaui CNC Elevator Lever, I notice on the CNC Elevator Lever that the Balls are in a straight line, not like the original being not in line with the pivot point.

Is there any difference in the setup with this CNC Elevator Lever, with the two bell cranks? Do I still set them up with the balls of centre on the bell crank or should I take one of the balls off and move to the other hole which will give a straight line with the pivot of the bell crank?

If the balls are in a straight line with the center of the lever, then you should also place them in the same arrangement on the servo disc.

So yes, you should move a ball so the arrangement is the same on the lever and the servo disc.

The CNC levers are setup for the balls in a line (that sounds strange ). The two sets of holes in the aileron levers is to offset for the different servo heights.

The plastic levers are setup for offset balls.

Hi Bob. The barebone EP 550 is my sixth heli. I just found your videos and can't thank you enough for blazing the trail toward making this a successful build. As a beginning 3-D pilot, I am considering the Gaui 1100 Kv motor and looking for about 2100 rpm headspeed. I want to use the stock head and tail for awhile. what do you think? I am asking about the motor because I saw in your flight videos that you wanted more headspeed and you mentioned putting in a different motor. I think the Gaui 1100Kv is an upgrade motor, but I am not sure. Am I pushing the stock head and tail to much with 2100 rpm?

Please disregard the above - I just found the 550 forum and what I need - Great!!

Thumbs up Great videos!!

Hi Bob,

I just wanted to thank you for those vids!

For a beginner like me, they are just perfect! (And I'm sure for others as well)

I just bought a used Hurricane 550 and will now disassemble and reassemble it the way you show in your videos. Just to have it in an mechanically optimised state.

Thx again,
Bernd
