Default Tail feels weird.. Watch the vid

Hi fellas,

450x, flies ok (slight slow wag, sometimes) but the tail feels clunky and its noisy.. Sounds like something is not right and It's like I can feel every tooth of the gears as it spins. Very jerky and not smooth at all.

What do you think? I have adjusted the belt from tight to looser and there is no difference. Bearings?

450 clunky/noisy tail (0 min 26 sec)

Note: There are no vibes at all from this. No vibes in the boom or heli. Once it gets going it is smooth (naturally) even spinning up by hand. It's just the sound its making and the jerky feel. Want to make sure that something is not about to fail in the air.

have you checked your main gear to make sure there are no teeth damaged and do you keep your bearings oilded. Sounds like it could be a bearing hard to tell by just looking at video.

Mine had a similar feel last fall. The bearing at the tail rotor was actually spinning in the plastic housing on the left side and had slightly melted the plastic. At that point the tail rotor shaft was at a slight angle, causing the belt and gears to mesh at a angle. Worth a look and i would check the forward tail belt shaft and bearings as well.

Yes, brand new gears, owb and oiled. I have not done much to the tail though so I am sure it's in need of some maintenance.

the sound and clunkyness is def coming from the tail area so Im betting your right. Im going to tear it down and look into it. The tail and bearings are the only things i have not replaced....yet... Willing to bet the bearings are shot to hell.

I removed the entire unit as a whole and put it back together without the heli. I could still feel this clunky feel and metallic scratchy noise, so I know it is not the rest of the heli.

I decided to slowly start backing out the case screws starting with the bottom one......and it disappeared. The screw was too loose to keep it that way but it def smoothed right out, no clunk, no step feel and no noise and it spun freely. Must be the bearings are going and when the case is tight, its aggravating them in their seat.

Oh well, the tail was getting pretty beat up and sloppy anyway so new alum. tail upgrades are enroute.

New tail in. Ahh.. Silky smooth. Except the bent tailshaft straight out of the box (old one was good so that's in for now). 3 minutes in chat session with Amain and a new one is already on the way. Great support through them.

Test flight shows that the slight twitch and wag or completely gone. Good thing I decided to throw some new parts at her.

Glad you got it fixed up. When you described the problem and I watched the video. I had a pretty good idea, you was having a issue like I was.

Took her out today as the first heli I will genuinely fly without SAFE.. Holy hell, two batteries in, just buzzing around. Solid, smooth and confident so far. She is so smooth in the air. Nice change-up from my 230S.
