Default Restoring my old king 2 for fun

Well, my king2 has beein sitting in a storage kabinet over my fridge for a few years, it looking a bit sad with broken blades, feathering shaft etc, so figured I would restore it.

First bummer was that 6 out of 8 batteries, had leaked and ruined the control. so I startet ordering parts a few weeks back, today a lot arrived, both orangerx R610, tailblade grips, tailblades and 2 packs of feathering shafts, I thought I had orderd 2 shafts.. but got 2x4 shafts.. so now I have some

Awaiting new blades and gyro, but I can do basic setup now, I can't even remember how this thing flies, its been so long, but I vaguely remember tail beeing a bit all over. I can't wait to bring it to the field and test against my 450s battery seemed ok with voltage check, it held just under 3.8 per cell, pretty good for beeing stored for 2-3 years(or however long its been) I did order a few new cheap zippy 1000mahs just in case.

Im considering brushless and new esc also, not sure what condition engine is in, as I understand they usually dont last that long, I guess mine has about 20-30 flights on it.

guess I dont have to explain why Im doing this here, as its all a hobby, and not supposed to make sense $$ wise, nor time.

cool, which head is that for FBL?

I setup everything yesterday, my swash is SO badly off, its amazing, maybe I put it down a bit harder then I remember, but only damage was hitting an oven slightly when trying to inverted indoors...

as for rudder, the servo really has a short movement? so far using stock gyro, I sett travel to 125% for left/right.

just spinning the head, no blades attached.. and engine gets hot.. thats "good"

Doh!!! moment, I took the 450, mcpx, and king2 to flytoday (way to much wind, broke tail on mcpx when 3ding )

but.. the stock gyro decided that when finally at the strip, the gyro would not work anymore.. "yay".

Ill order up a GY520 or 550.

on a sidenote, the belt, keeps derailing, on left side of chopper, before pully, any tips?

Remove the idler pulley if it's on the 450.

You can either raise the main gear or lower the belt guide pully.

Here's how I did mine:

main gear: http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/foru...0&postcount=19

or

belt guide pully: http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/foru...8&postcount=60

Is your belt centered in the tube and the idler and main pulley in line? I looked at mine last night and one of my idler pulley screws was real loose.

Hi, you are right, the pulley, sits a bit lower than it probably should!

The out of alignment would I guess be which way the belt comes off. Over the pulley towards the rotor head or drive gear. Belt might be contacting the boom and causing it to deflect.

Default Belt on King 2

Hi dm,

A great trick I got from somebody a few years back is to put a wire tie across the frame just below where the belt exits the boom tube on the way to the small rollers. If you do it correctly it will keep the belt from slipping down and popping off. Note the yellow green wire tie on my flybarless King 2 in the photo.

Default King 2

I have had a few helicopters lose servo control due to rf issues. The coils come on most esc's for a reason They seem to mitigate it. My 500 and my 250 both would try to to go full up at a certain head speed. I put two coils on the 500 after taking it off for wiring convenience. No problems since. There are a few heated threads on this subject for and against. It works for me.

Also, I just added the capacitor as the orange receivers are reported to lose frames, not sure of the cause. The capacitor makes a good filter and will keep the voltage a bit more steady with the increased demand of the fbl controller. This King flies really great with this setup. Great power, light weight with 1600mah 30C batteries and a touch smaller than a 450. The CX unit takes a bit of tuning but really improves the King 2. I am running about 3100 headspeed. Very quick but stable in the wind.

Try out the wire tie. I never had another belt problem after installing it. It was quite common to fall off the left side pulley without it. Tears up your belt after a while.

Enjoy,

Terry
