I think many of us are running full size tail servos, if I remember correctly you were using a 9257, this may be a bit marginal and so unless everything is perfect it may be why you are seeing this.

Indeed, I had no problems, then I had some problems, then I had some slight problems.

Then I put on a BLS251 and now I have zero problems, ever.

That's my case.
First time I assembled the protos, I had the most locked tail ever. It was impressive, compared to my trex 500.
Then I rebuilt it when I damage a tail blade and was never the same, even with the BLS.

I guess I'm slowly learning.

WEll I learned three things;

First, the 9257 really is marginal for this heli and I got lucky on my build and had everythig perfect enough for it to work.
Second, the thrusted tail has more drag than a good non thrusted tail.
And third, IF it ain't broke, don't fix it!

ANd as further proof of the drag of the new tail bearing setup my old unit has a slightly notchy bearing on one side and it still works better that the new one!

On that note, I will NOT be installing the new thrusted tail updgrade, which will be arriving this afternoon as my current setup works just fine. I thought I would upgrade the tail when I did the stretch kit and low FBL head. Glad to know there might be issues BEFORE I go through the trouble to switch everything out.

Well I would go that far...

If you have problems you can always just pop the old hub back on.. It'd take no more than a few minutes to put the old one back on.

I don't see how the thrusted set up can be more draggy (under load at least) if all the components are assembled properly and not defective. In theory it should be an improvement.

Mine, for the record, works fine.

I never used the stock hub or bearings but my new install of the TH bearings resulted in excellent tail performance. I just posted my maiden flight video in the vid section and the tail is perfect.

The TH tail was super smooth, I was amazed at just how smooth and drag free it was, especially compared to Align.

To qualify my situation I will say that the components of my thrusted tail "upgrade" fit very poorly and I even had to sand and file some of the parts to make them fit. Even so I ended up with what I thought was a very free moving and smooth tail but then proved that it doesn't work with my servo.
When I up grade to a full size servo I will go back to the thrusted tail as I have heard that they don't vibrate as much.

I can't say they fit very poorly: they just are a "press fit" solution.
I also had to push hard on the hub to get it into the shaft, and same happened with fitting the bearings to the hub. I just wish the bearings of the tail shaft were like that (hard to put on so they can't rotate on the shaft).

The parts definitely fit tight. I was able to use my xacto knife handle which was a perfect fit inside the grip to push the washers and bearings down evenly. Maybe that's the difference.

I had to sand the shaft of the hub to get it to go through the bearings at all. Still a very tight fit but the ends of the hub was burred very badly and no way they were going through the bearing races without damaging them. The bearings fit tight in the grips but they just pushed in with a little force.
I greased the thrust bearings but I didn't oil the other bearings but the grips turned easy and smooth. Just won't work in flight.

My thrusted tail came today, I will fit it next week and see how it goes.

Good luck! I hope that you have a full size tail servo.

I think Alex uses a mini servo with the thrusted tail without problems.

So what's the bottom line...is it worth it or not? It's only 24.00, but I could put that towards another battery. I just don't know! I am FBL with 9650 on the head and Align 650 on the tail. I just stuffed her in so this is the ideal time to do it (while I have to order parts)!

I'm not sure you're referring to me...is there another Alex in this Protos forum?

Anyways, both Protos have full size servos. BLS251 and DS650. I bought a second used BLS251 to replace the DS650 but since the BeastX and the DS650 are working well together, I decided to leave it on there for now.

I have no problem with the new MSH tail hubs. Except that with both of them, I did have to file the shaft hole bigger because it just wasn't big enough to pass the tail shaft through.

I need some vacation.
In my idea, you had a BLS257 on the tail.
