Default Tail drive details

Hi Everyone,

Been looking at the 300x, and apparently the tail is belt driven. I cant see in any of the photos how this works, where the belt sits etc. Can anyone show me any photos showing where the belt is and how it drives the tail, and the way its driven by the main motor?

Mainly just interested in the mechanics of it and weighing up in my mind how likely I am to break it!!

Pete.

There is a belt drive gear, i think above the main gear that the belt wraps around. The belt is funneled down to fit in the tail shaft via 2 small guide idler pulleys.
The 300x manual is online, I bet there is a parts explosion diagram there.

As I recall (from the 300X manual exploded view), the belt is driven by a gear on the main shaft. Just like my Furion 450.

So does that mean the belt does a twist down the tail boom...?

Sounds just like a rotorway exec!!

Pete.
All belt drives that I have seen (Align, MA) make a 90 degree twist down the boom. Not a big deal.

I bet it's the same design as the 450X/4503D tail

No it looks completely different. The 450X drive is similar to the Align type drive. A pulley driven by a gear off the main shaft.

The 300X has the drive pulley being a gear on the main shaft. That's the way it looks like to me when I look at the exploded views in the manual.

I think he was talking about the back tail assembly at the end of the boom. This is just a scaled down version of the 450-X or 450-3D. They actually share some on the same parts.

The front drive just uses a pulley around the main shaft and then has a few idler puleys in the frame to guide the belt into the boom. This design is very much like the MSH mini protos. This design works well but ca be a bit of a pain when it comes to crash rebuilding....
