Default Flybar loose, should it be?

I'm caring for a friends 4G3 and attempting to get it flyable.

One of the things bothering me about it is the fact that I can grab either flybar paddle between my thumb and pointer finger, and twist flybar paddle and rotate the whole flybar (and the other paddle) freely (it will turn forever). This leads to the flybar paddles pointing the wrong direction, etc. It doesn't seem right.

The other helis I have do not do this, if I do this on any of my other helis, it moves the swashplate and changes the angle of the rotor disc.

Is this normal on the 4G3? If not, what could cause that freedom in the flybar?

P.S. I also just found that I can actually push the flybar assembly from either end and move the whole thing through the head, something must be lose/broken, what could it be?

Thanks!

There are small flat spots on the flybar that provide a flat surface for the set screws to bite on and ensure a solid connection to prevent twisting and sliding.

Thanks Steve,

I see the flat spots on the flybar, are the set screws in the ball links that are near where the flybar passes through the main rotor shaft?

Hi there,

The biggest thing I've found so far is the feathering shaft being too long...

The blade grips move up & down too much. I shortened mine a small amount (1/32) on each side. This tightened it up and got rid of most of my problems.

Good luck!

The flybar should be secured by the 2 screws on the paddle control frame, tightening onto the 2 flat spots on the flybar - is that what you were asking?

I think so, I'm planning to take a good look tonight, thanks Dusty.

That did it, thanks Dusty, one of the screws had backed out just enough to allow the flybar to twist freely.

Now, how do I get the damn swashplate to stop separating? I thought I read somewhere that there may have been a bad batch of parts that don't fit as snugly as they should.

Thanks again all.
