Default Compass SZ 4926 - is this too much play?

In the process of putting a new ESC on my 7HV and I happened to pull up on the motor can (new motor with single magnets, the painted top and chrome can). There seems to be a lot of travel of the stator up and down on the shaft. Is this too much? Is it anything to worry about? The can isn't rubbing against the bottom plate.

None is needed for heat expansion, at least not that you can measure, shim it so you have no play but no binding either so inadvertently you want to have thousands of a mm play not really noticeable. Think what a moving can do to amongst others a herringbone gear.

C clip is still in place. Wish I had another one to put on top of it because it would fill the gap nicely.

Are you sure the c-clip is in the slot? I had a similar issue and the slot is not reachable below the bearings. The c-clip is just on the shaft but not properly installed.

Had one too.could only get the tips of the clip to get onto the slot , but not "seat" into the slot fully.

OK, I am getting a new one (very good service from the distributor) and will check the differences. It is a pity that they did not make a design that allows the main shaft to be shifted up/down with a set screw to adjust the tolerances and the play.

Thanks for the input. The C clip is in place. Finding shims that will fit is a pain. I should send it back but I live in Rio and sending stuff back and forth is a nightmare.

A big thank you to Redsoper for sending me a new c-clip. I still had to shim it anyway but couldn't have done it without the new c-clip. If anyone needs shims, AMainHobbies sells a Kyosho 8x10mm shim set (containing several 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 shims) that works great. I found a similar problem on my 600 MX and 700 MX motors. Kyosho also make the 6x10mm shim sets.

I have the same motor with the same amount of play, Did you got it replaced or did the shims work for you. The reason I ask is that I notice my other motor have play and would want to think this is normal.

The shims took care of it. I needed .3 mm total.
