I just updated mine from 3.2 to 4.4 using steps in the manual from kosmik's website. It was frustrating at times and made me nervous, but it appears to have all worked. Haven't flown yet, but I'm pretty sure it's good

I have 3.0 on mine as well. Did you guys go direct to latest version? I'm a bit confused how to upgrade.

Thanks.

When one is upgrading, it's MAJORLY imperative to not open ANY apps....nor change "windows"...or you'll get the dreaded "not responding" message....

FWIW

Just let it go its still running just let it finish. If the lights on the program disc are still flashing and same with the kosmik its still running

Followed this procedure to upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4. No issues. I never saw a progress indicator though. Got the "not responding" from windows but it did update successfully. Scary.

Quote "Once the ProgDisc firmware is upgraded to V1.09, the Kosmik Version 4.2 cannot be re-upgraded (only 4.3 can be re-upgraded)....when I tried to do so with V4.2, the upgrade progress bar "title" would always have "not responding" appended to the German text" Unquote

I have upgraded my Progdisc from 1.05 to 1.09. Does the above means that I'll have a problem when I want to upgrade my Kosmik from June 2013 ? And what can I do if that is the case?

Thanks,

Ok. I took the plunge. I went direct from 3.1 to 4.4. This should correspond to what you want to do.
Couple of key points. You are going to need to reset the Kosmik both before and after the upgrade.
I received a "not responding" in the window on the PC but the lights were flashing on the progdisc as
the upgrade was occuring. Once complete after about 5 minutes, the window disappeared and the flashing stopped. Power down and then restart and all was good. Follow instructions the same as if upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4 as given by OP. Thankfully worked like a charm

Without proper procedure documentation, it is....

And, I feel that a quality product such as the Kosmik 160/200HV line
is done a diservice by the lack of proper upgrade
documentation procedures.....so, I took it upon myself to
generate my own proc.....that works reliably and is repeatable.

And, that the procedure defines the steps to be taken in detail...
Do this...do that....don't worry about this, forget that...

In addition, I have since made addendums to this "stickied"
procedure....but cannot modify the procedure to add the
new data....?????

Mikado USA has my latest version.

With regards to the upgrading.....

Upgrades to the ProgDisc are independent of the Kos upgrade.

The ProgDisc needed it's upgrade, and it will work properly with
older Kos versions....and that upgrade is the easiest.

While I only tested the upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3, and then to 4.4,
upgrade straight to 4.4(latest at this time).

1) Upgrade the ProgDisc to 1.09(latest)....according to the procedure

2) When the Kosmik upgrade is progressing, step away from your computer
and let it finish.....DO NOT OPEN ANY APPS....DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING

3) If 2) fubars, repeat 2)

4) If 3), use your ProgDisc to execute a Kos "reset", "discarding" any
Kos parameters...and returning the Kos to it's factory defaults.

During the development of this procedure, as explained within the procedure,
the most common problem I encountered was that I failed to follow
my own instructions...

CLOSE YOUR APPS...to the extent possible.

DON'T OPEN ANY OTHER APPS....

When you invoke the Kos upgrade, be patient....when you see
the Kos upgrade "bar" progressing...DON'T TOUCH YOUR COMPUTER...

Let it finish....then use your upgraded ProgDisc to modify any Kos
parameters that your specific situation requires....SBEC voltage?
rotation direction?....etc.

Follow the procedure, and it won't be scary any more....

Followed this procedure and worked a treat.
Just for anyone else who is looking the procedure seems to work from any firmware version to 4.4
I went from 3.2 straight to 4.4 using it with no drama at all.

Good to know, as that was my intent, as well as to demonstrate that....try as I did....I couldn't get the 160/200HV to "brick".

At the time I developed this procedure, V4.4 wasn't out.

Since the ProgDisc has been discontinued, a new procedure is in order when the newer way to upgrade 160/200HV firmware becomes available.

When this happens, I intend to develop a new procedure with the same format that will describe how to do this, step by step, with what one should see happen during the upgrade and what should not.

Now that the ProgDisc has been replaced by the new ProgUnit with its GUI interface, this procedure will be updated.

But, since this "sticky" can't be edited, the procedure update will have to be posted in another way.....or somewhere else...

The procedure should posted in total...rather than in several addendums.

Such is life.

Thanks a lot for your description of the procedure. I thought I've bricked my Kosmik because of the meaningless EEPROM error message. After reading the procedure I'll gave it a try - and it worked

Thanks again!

I have 2 Kosmik 200HV , the first one I updated to 4.5 . This seemed ok at first and all the update went through ok, Now the unit won't work at all with no lights etc nothing is happening and won't arm. I tried plugging in the ProUNIT to check and nothings coming up on the computer at all . Its just dead.
The second Unit a followed the same procedure and again updated to 4.5 and all is good, however with the ProgUNIT I can't change the warnings crew , so can't set voltage limits like I could with the porridges. Reading the manual . The limits can be communicated through the TelME module, do I need to purchase one of these too to change the parameters ???

My first unit is going to have to go back to Kontronik I think ! Unless anybody can help please?

Difficult to understand based on "I can't change the warnings crew" and the use of the word "porridges". Not sure about ProgUnit but ProDisc is pretty easy to see and edit all settings. I would try one on your first unit and send back if no satisfaction.
