Default 1600kv or 1700kv

I like long flight times and I'm only doing sport flying so should I just go with the outrage 1600kv or will I be disappointed I don't get the 1700kv? Thanks

Austin

I've got scorpion 1630kv with plenty of power (12° collective at 2400 rpm), and still longest flight time of all my helis... 6 - 7 minutes of mild 3d with only 800 - 900 mAh out of a 1350 6s pack.

G5 6S design gives it very good flight time, so you can choose the most powerfull 1700 kv motor that you will love better when you'll need it on your G5.

The 1700 is pretty much the same flight time as the 1600. Take the 1700

I just fly sport on my G5 with 1700 motor, have the timer set for 8 mins and have never put back more than 900mA - so using less that 70% which are sweet numbers for long battery life.

What packs and what headspeed... throttle curve / governor etc. What pinion?

Useful info but it would be great if you could fill in some of the variables...

Assuming you are using stock FB blades... what kind of flying?

I am running the latest Outrage 1700kv motor, Ice 50 with headspeed fixed to 2650, 13th pinon. My packs are made up of 2 Turnigy 30c 3s 1300 in series. I get 6.5 minutes of 3d/sport flying and put back 950 ma. Motor and esc are about 130 degrees f on a day when ambient temp is about 100. Packs are at ambient after the flight. I am using 350 mm radix blades. I am using the Align 3g FBL system and Align DS410m servos on swash and 3400g on the tail.

Packs are the standard Outrage 1300 XP25 bought about 18 months ago (I have 10 of them). Pinion is standard recommended for the kit - 11T I think, throttle for ST-1 is flat line 85% - which is what I use most. No gobenor, not a clue wjhat the headsped is, and general sports flying, hovering, circuits and eights, fast passes with stall turns/reversals at each end, some loops. No 3D. Carbon blades.

Default Scorpion

Hi everyone, just got hold of a second hand G5, it has a Scorpion MK2 2221 1630kv coupled with a 13t pinion, tail is standard 11t pulley . Just wondering if the pinion is a bit large? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

That pinion will work for higher h/s, as you can see in the last few posts.
I run the same motor (basically, it's a Hyperion OEM of the same motor) and run 12t to get 2400 h/s.

Many thanks, I bought a 11 & 12t, sooner start lower and increase if needed. I'll use the eagle tree log to see what I get in flight and post up the results later.

Other than the hyperion, scorpion or outrage motors are there any other motors out there for 6s on the G5?

Yes, the Align 450MX 1700 is a superb motor for the G5. I've been using it for the past few weeks and it works very well.

And the hyperion and the scorp are one in the same...different colors and supposedly better bearings on the hyp. I have both, but havent run the hyp yet.

i have 2 outrage 1700kvs and wore them both out lol.. bearings are bad now.. prob 200 flights each. not a very good motor IMO

I have the original 1600kv and will use that till it wears out then get a align mx

I was gonna sell the g5 but decided to keep it now..

I have logged over 500 flights on it and i still love it

The two Outrage 1700 motors I have tried were junk. One shorted out during the first flight and the other had a vibration problem that was hard to track down. The Scorpion 1630 or the Align 450MX 1700 are the motors of choice for the G5.
