do EXACTLY as bob shows in the video and it works fine.
AS he said in the video, if your tip is dirty, it makes all the difference in the world. Resin core solder builds up burnt resin on your tip, and heat will not flow properly. I have one of those steel wool balls that you push the iron in and out of to clean the tip. As per bobs video... 1) Clean the tip 2) melt a SMALL drop of solder onto the tip to allow heat transferrence 3) Touch the tip to the deans for a one to two count to allow the heat to transfer, 4) Start feeding the solder onto the deans clean your tip before each solder. so...clean it now.... tin your wire now in the same method as above clean your tip AGAIN 1) melt small drop of solder on the tip to allow heat transferrence 2) hold the wire on the deans 3) hold the tip to the wire. 4) should take 2 seconds max to melt the solder on the wire and the deans together...everything will turn bright silver release the iron and dont move ANYTHING until the bright silver turns dull Thats it. If its taking more than 2-3 seconds and the wire is getting hot as hell and burning your fingers... CLEAN YOUR TIP Heat is not transferring rapidly enough to get a good solder flow going at the connection and instead is slow heating and transferring all the heat to the whole wire which is now acting like a huge heat sink and drawing all the heat away from your solder connection. YOU MUST HAVE A CLEAN TIP....small drop of solder melted on the end and the heat will flow instantaneously. Did I mention have a clean tip?

Thanks for the tips.. It was the tip had black on it and I didn't think that would make a difference... All ends are soldered on the ESC and now am working on the Gyro.
Any tips on mounting it? I'm mounting to the underside of the tail but not sure what way to have it facing... With the lettering reading at the top closest to the head of the heli.. |

I find the little hobby solderers not very good for doing Dean's connectors. You need mega power. I've been much happier since I switched to a 100/140 watt Weller -- just for doing Dean's connectors:
http://www.amazon.com/Weller-8200PK-120-Volt-Universal-Soldering/dp/B00002N7S0 I still use my precision 40 watt hobby solderer for fine electronics. Karen

Karen... WOW...that must be nice...touch and go!
I'm using a Weller Portasol P2K portable butane powered iron. I love it. Small portable, gets the job done. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=372-170 100W.....

So I got everything on and plugged her in. Everything so far seems pretty good but I have a servo that works but don't stop buzzing.. Is there an adjustment to stop this or is this a sign I got a bad servo?
Edit..lol Also on the ESC it has the three wires to the motor but they are all red marked A, B, C... What one goes to what on the motor (Black, red, Yellow). If I hook up wrong will it burn out anything? |

It doesn't matter on the ESC
Plug any three into any 3 and increase your throttle. If the motor is spinning backwards, swap any 2 wires.

I also had a butane solderer that I *really* liked -- a little Weller like yours. Unfortunately, I bought cheap butane from a $1 store and it clogged it up so it no longer burns properly. Take my advice, buy high quality triple filtered butane!!! Karen

I started with a Weller 25w but soon found it just wasen't going to cut it for deans. So I got a Rat shack 40w and it does the trick but I agree. It just cuts it. Now I want one of those! Thanks for sharing Karen!

HY -
You're welcome! I just added a picture of The Beast to the post above. :-) Always.... remember to slip on the heat shrink *before* you solder! :-) I made that n00b mistake just this morning, AGAIN..... I wish there was a soldering iron that did that for you. Karen

Ok so I need help setting up the gyro to DX6i. Not sure what to set the TX to and switch from rate to HH or if I even have the gyro hooked up right.. I watched the vids but not sure how the TX works.. The yellow single wire that comes from the gyro.. I have that plugged to a channel or should I not? Manual said not to but then I thought Bob said too...lol

Plug the 3 wire plug into the rudder channel and the single(signal) wire into gear. Be sure that the signal wire is lined up with the orange/white side on the Rx not the black/brown(-)!
Then in the gyro menu set the switch to gear then set the gain in Pos. 0 to 25% and the Pos. 1 gain to 75% to start and adjust it from there. Pos. 0 is rate and Pos. 1 is HH. Hope that helps I'll be back to check after I fly this pack.

Alright I got the rear servo set to 90 and the gyro settings like you said above. Seems to be working but will play with the settings once able to fly. I would like to understand what playing with the numbers will do.. Also on the gyro it's self do I make any adjustments to this?
Made a mistake and found that my bottom front servo is stripped so now have to pull out apart to replace... I should have checked them by testing instead of the look over.. |

Got my servo swapped out and all is good. Start to set up head and some of the servo's need reversing. So making a huge mistake I reverse the throttle... Thank god I didn't have blades on.. It ripped my tail to apart..lol Now I need to pull it off and put the coptorx tail on..
But I'm having problems with the servo creeping on the tail. I use sub trim to adjust but as soon as I use the stick to check it creeps the other way.. What do I need to do to make this new gyro set right? Thanks guys, will be back after swapping out my tail...lol |

first step on the Telebee is to eliminate all sub trim and trim with the switch in rate mode flip into HH mode the sevo will creep. push the rudder right it should stick push the rudder left it should stick if not adjust the sub trim in hh mode one way or the other untill the servo creep stops then flip back to rate mode and flip back to hh mode the servo should not creep. next fly in Rate mode and slide the servo up or down the boom as needed to hold the tail steady in rate mode and you should have your gyro set up.

Thanks Chad again and I will do that as soon as I'm done with the head.. Working on making it as perfect as I can and then will start back on the gyro/tail.
Ian, That is my first paint job with my airbrush I got for x-mas. Not to bad but some spots I hoped would have came out better.. |
