Main gear slipping
Crashed 3 times today due to the main gear slipping down. Two of the crashes during a stationary inverted hovering, and once during a stationary upright hovering. It shouldn't have happened! It's the first time that it did. I understand if and when I crash, the main gear can slip down, but not during stationary hovering.
Anyone with an insight as to why, what can be done to prevent it, or what replacement upgrade was done to eliminate this? On that note, would a solid carbon main shaft be a good upgrade? Thanks! |

I'll bet if you pull that gear off you'll find the hub is split. I suspect if you replace it things will get better.

Where/what exactly is the hub?

The center of the gear has a flange, or hub. It can split if stressed enough. When that happens, the gear is really easy to push back into position after an "event". It's also easy for it to slip out of position.
If this happens replace the gear. When I switched to a MH solid shaft, I got one that was a little undersized. That also allowed the gear to slip easily. Lesson, don't crash.

+ be aware the gear hole is a 'D' shape, not a 'O' regular circle. So, you have to make sure the flat side of the shaft matches the flat side of the 'D' hole.
Also push it all the way. There must be ~1mm shaft end visible. Also don' t buy the cheap spare gears (2 for 2.5€), because they are softer, and unoticeabilly smaller,... They get chew by the pinion ;-( |

The Lynx aluminum hub with a derlin gear works really well. Not necessary but it is solid and noticeably smoother and quieter than the stock gear. And assuming the shaft is in good condition, the lock screw is good extra protection against slipping.
