The collar prevents the mainshaft from slipping down. Yes, Loctite is necessary. Make sure the main shaft is oil free where the locking ring is positioned.

I've never put loctite on mine, or made sure the main shaft was oil free, and never had it slipping, even in a crash (130 flights, 4 crashes). I was kinda scared of getting loctite in the main shaft bearing.

Just to be clear: I put Loctite on the screw which clamps down the collar. Not on the collar itself. Not securing metal to metal connections is asking for trouble IMHO.

Yes that is what I was talking about as well, I never put loctite on that screw, I was too scared to get some in the BB just below. And I've never had it budge, even in a crash so I'm not too worried.

You should loctite it, and if you are afraid of getting it in the bearing try the Loctite 248 QuickStix. I much prefer it over the liquid!

Yeah sadly the only thing we find from the loctite brand in Europe is superglue, I tried finding some green loctite once and it was pretty much impossible to find it at reasonable prices (not paying 20$ to be able to loctite one mcpx pinion).

I'll just put a little loctite and then hang it upside down for a while when I build it back up again.
I'm waiting till May to get parts to rebuild and order 2 BEC's and a couple sats from the UK, for my mini P and my soon to be gaui X3.

roger that guys..thanks.....actually the other day I was setting up my new BX on the mini and when I setting up the swash, the main shaft slipped down......THEN I found out that (although sounds funny, I never had this before on my other 450s), the culprit is the swashplate itself. It got stuck on the main shaft as like it was glued to the main shaft. I haven't maiden the mini yet.........

Mini Protos assembly manual does *not* require loctite on the collar (page 13). MSH folks, is that intentional?

Theoretically, since it's under tension from the split ring, the bolt will not try to loosen. However, I err on the side of caution when it comes to these helis and sometimes I still get bitten when something comes loose. :

Quite right, that is what the manual says. As a point of caution, I blue loctited mine, had a minor crash that put a slight bend in the drive shaft, stripped the screw trying to get it out of the collar and had to throw it out with the shaft. And as fate inevitably has it, Ark RC has no collars in stock for the next fortnight.

I tested the possibility of getting one, with a few other parts adding up to $28, from MSH Direct, and it would have been quicker but the postage to Australia would have added $45.

I apply loctite 247 blue on all screws when its metal on metal. It just makes for a secure connection. I would much rather have a hard time removing a scew after a crash then to have that same 1 cent screw back out and cause a 100 usd crash. That just me though , at the end of the day its your heli do what you want. But I will tell you this in my years of Flying locktite NEVER caused a crash , but 1 cent screws breaking and coming loose have.

If you just use the Loctite sparingly as you're supposed to and wipe excess off the threads then there's no way it's getting on the main bearings.
