I was able to go through the full airframe and tail today and check all of the screws and reloctited all of the screws that are load bearing. I got the complete airframe together and read for electronics. I got the heli used so i wanted to go through everything and make sure it meets my expectations. I still have to go through the head and of course buy and install all of my electronics. I pulled the trigger on the HC3SX today so it will definitely be going in the Diabolo. Still have to figure out the rest, but i have a pretty good idea of what I'm getting.

What's up they were sold out of the big ESC? JK. Your wiring is quite impressive and meticulous.

Discovered that my tail control loss incident was not my dodgey wiring, but a faulty brain, goes mental when touched

Put on a new brain and problem fixed.
Hopefully this weekend I will get some consistent packs thru the diabolo...

Sweet. I use one in my stretched P500. Works great.

If your HC3SX behaves weird or if your heli drifts first thing to do is lighten up those cables. So many rigid cables with wrapping and heat shrink at the end plus everything zip tied together over a FBL unit which is a one piece box with the sensors inside is a no no, it induces a lot of vibration. You might be fine, but have this in mind if anything arises.

I thought of this. There is some wiggle in the harness but the braiding does stiffen things up a bit. I have seen similar setups where the last half inch before the connector is left uncovered. Might be a good compromise of protection with some bare wire to soak up vibes. I might go back and do this...

Don't sweat about it, on electrics it is not so critical, specially if you are using a hard foam or a thin 3M tape. Another symptom could be less than perfect stops on cyclic, some bouncing there. Again, less probable with hard tape. As long as the FBL doesn't get blurred by vibes and makes the heli commit suicide, which is unlikely coming from cables and more likely from unbalanced or bent tail or main rotor, you should be fine.

If you look at the pic's from my build you can see how I did my wires, I had read about this a while back.

Default What did you do with your diabolo today?

Did a test hover after replacing the brain to make sure it's good for this weekend.
Went well, little bit surprised with battery consumption, 12S 5000mah, 5min hovering with a couple pitch pumps and piro's, landed with 64% left!
I could do a 10min hover, and this was with 1800 on the head, could easily go down to 1400 and get a lot more again!

Yup, I think that is where I saw it done. I picked up some 3:1 heat-shrink yesterday at a local electronics store. So I'll be able to cut back the braiding and re-heat-shrink without removing the connector. I'm thinking about 1/2" of exposed wire before the connector. We'll see once I get around to it.

Maidened mine today. Wow, what a sweet bird. Flew it and my TDR for several of break-in and tuning flights. So far to date the Diabolo fits me the best yet. Can't wait to get back to the field.
