Mine will be looking exactly the same as what Grant has above...In which heli I will reveal later, BUT if my kosmik smokes up in my new Heli, I'm probably going to make a lot of noise. I will be running a buffer pack for saftey purposes as well as the fuse holder and fan.

I would recommend (how thefrog has it) using linus's fuse holder for added mechanical support of the fuse.

if there truly was a flaw in the design itself then they would all fail. now maybe part tolerance on the component level allows for a design to become a flaw in very rare cases but all of this is being investigated. The problem so far is that Kontronik has yet to be able to reproduce any of these failures under extensive testing.

Richard,
Its human to make mistakes, i just hope that when the "flaw" becomes known that kontronik will share and fix at no cost! The service I have received since joining the K family has been fantastic. Im just nervous to put it in my "new" heli and become part of the senses. I got the buffer pack, the fuse holder and will be using the fuse so i really have brought all of the precautions, i just hope it enough

Can you please elaborate on the "flaw" you are talking about with the Kosmik design? Are you talking about the screws holding the mounting tabs becoming loose and causing a short? I have been advocating for the longest time that people stripe across all screws on their helicopter with fingernail polish so they can visibly see if a screw has vibrated it's way loose. The same should be done on the top of the Kosmik to make it easy to visibly check if the screws holding the mounting tabs and the screws holding the case together have vibrated their way loose.

Im not a electrical engineer but what i can comment on is that the guy who let me know I actually trust as he is one very clever guy! Hope fully he will be able to comment on this or get in direct contact with you. We all love K and thats why we pay what we pay so im not trying to bad mouth any one here, im just asking that if there is a internal flaw that K will fix the items at little or no charge! Thanks for your point about fixing, will keep that in mind!

What does Kontronik typically charge to have a Kosmik looked over? I figure if they open mine up and see anything suspect, they'll likely fix it rather than risking it catching on fire.
nothing wrong with mine that I know of, so it would be sent strictly as a prevention thing.

I don't know who the birdie was. I don't know what he twittered.
Some visible things in a design may be suspected to cause problems, but only at the end of a successful investigation such a strange looking stuff could be called "design flaw" afterwards, - or not. Well, mostly you need much luck as manufacturer to be able to see the same symptoms as a user had to experience. The damn thing does not want to do a favor to go in the same way to the happy hunting grounds as it did with a user - and especially not if you try to provoke it. That all needs some time, but it also requires that you listen to everything that little bird chirping. All, you can do for now: - to use a buffer pack (respectively device ) for the R/C voltage - to use the fuse - to pray to the R/C God

I sent him a set in anticipation of his eventual aquisition, although last I heard he hadn't received them yet. They haven't arrived in Germany yet either, but everyone else got theirs.

Rest assured, knowing Sabine and Kontronik she would not be sleeping soundly if there was a known issue with the Kosmik. Kontronik as a brand is trusted the world over, not just by us hobbyists but by industry also. A little know fact is a vast part of Kontronik is industrial applications that are used in the automotive industry and the medical industry and the RC side is given every bit as much attention to detail as the components used in the medical industry. They will be all over the Kosmik checking and double checking making sure everything is perfect!! Use a buffer and fit the fuse as advised to limit the risk to yourself and your model

All this being said if i am correct in my assumption the fires only occured on the later firmware upgrades, initially we read about shutdowns now fires, maybe thats where the problem lies, Time will tell but personally i prefer the shutdown
