Default What did you do with your atom today?

The 6hv got sold to buy the 7hv.

I never fully gelled with the 6hv. At the time the 5.5 was too close to the 6hv in terms of size and performance.

Since getting the 7hv the 5.5 fills the gap nicely. I don't need to share packs so that bit doesn't bother me.

The 500 with the 10t is ballistic and it wasn't a good match to the 7hv in terms of flying style. The 5.5 again matches more even running the 10t.

I'm happy with the combo atm. The 5.5 is dirt cheap to run and it isn't a massive difference to jump on to the 7hv now either.

This is why I am now slightly leaning towards the 7HV... the 6HV U is indeed a little too close to the Atom 5.5 size wise especially since I am using Fusuno 5.5 canopies, 6HV struts, and 6HV tail stabilizer, on my Atom 5.5. The main thing going for the 6HV U is I can reuse my 3300 packs.

Sorry about your crash... I almost had a similar incident last weekend with my 500 where I missed the dirt by millimeters coming out of a high speed 360 loop.

I have had success re-bonding broken CF on my road bike using JB Weld

It will be tough to decide between the 6HVU and 7HV... I have room for only one more but I have no plans of giving up any of my my Atoms.

EDIT: I noticed you replaced your BeastX with TracX. Is it really that much better? How does the TracX compare to the VBar?
I didn't believe too. In fact they don't fly equal, but doing a head to head comparison, I felt it was more of a tie.

But in the end, I'm losing interest in small helis, I sold my 500 to fund the 7HV and the Warp may be put for sale sometime soon.

Not that the Atom isn't a great machine, it really is. But the 5.5 variant flies so much better, that it's quite close to the 6HV as you said in a later post.

That leads to the next issue, if you can afford the 7HV, go for it. Nowadays I feel some clash between the Atom 5.5 and the 6HV. The good thing IMO is that one serves as a backup for the other. But if you want a new (and awesome) experience, the 7HV is the way to go.

About the TracX unit over the BX, what I like are:

- Embedded governor (I still have to enable it, though ).
- More detailed configuration, and it can be adjusted at the field through an Android app + BT module (BTW, the VBar has an Android app too).
- Much more resistance to vibes than the BX.
- The handling is smoother than with the BX, in this regard the feel is very similar to the VBar.
- Finally, the BX is starting to show its age. It's good, but I was willing to try something else... and I liked it.

Cheers!

ARM_Coder thanks again for your insights. I am now thinking the combination of the Atom and the 7HV could be perfect in my situation but my mind is not fully made up yet One thing for sure is my next heli will be another Compass.

Im going the same way back to an Atom, from my 6hv, and just a 7HV Atom 500 fleet.

"Could use some suggestions on the best way the repair the battery tray support arms.. thanks"

Cyclo already touched on repairing the frame with JB Weld.

Make a doubler from CF that is large enough to overlap the broken area by at least 1/4".
Drill small holes in the frame and doubler to bolt the doubler on (on both sides of the break).
Scuff the shine from the CF on doubler and the frame.
Clean the area to which the JB Weld is going to be applied with alcohol to remove any trace of oil.
Mix and apply the JB Weld to both the doubler and the frame, then bolt the doubler to the frame.
Wipe off any excess JB weld before it starts to set.

When you are finished, the repair will be stronger than the original frame.

On the Atom vs. 6HV vs. 7HV thing-I don't think life would be complete without one of each!
(and an Odin, and a 3D Plus, etc.)

+100

A 5.5 and a 7HV make a fantastic duo. If I had to ditch all but 2 helis, I surely would keep these two.

Cheers!

I ordered a Heliguard case for my Atom.

I have so much stuff to put in the car for the HeliFreak Fun Fly, the bag should save me a bit of room, over the solid case.

It actually went surprisingly well considering I bought it used, slapped on my hc3sx, adjusted the pitch slightly and really nothing else. Don't know what the esc settings are but it was uneventful. Didn't even change head or tail gains from the trex 500 and it seemed good. Now just have to figure out how much collective and cyclic pitch I should use.

Good job on the maiden!

I may stretch my 500 to 5.5 as the cog is perfect with 3300 mah batteries...

Two identicle helis can't be a bad thing....

In my case there are days when I prefer the more "relaxed" flight characteristics of my Atom 500... keeping in mind that relaxed is a highly relative word.

Really looking forward to the next Compass build now... it will be a 12S

Maiden +2. Why did I ever sell this thing?

Working pretty good after a little TLC, still needs a grip arm as one is bent but it is flying.
I do have a little interaction, at full + collective it pulls to the right (from tail in). Will double check swash level at top and bottom and go from there.
Tail is a little funny but I can afford to go out on horn some so hopefully sped up response will help, if not quicker+stronger servo will.

I am thinking this the perfect size to get stupid with. Bye Bye 450.
