Default Canopy option.

I have not been sparing in my dislike of the Stinger 50's standard plastic canopies shape and/or ability to hold paint.
While in my LHS the other week, I tried an align 600 nitro canopy to see if it would fit as I rather like their lines .... and well ... just like it was made for it!!

As per attached, while still to finish on deciding what color scheme, as you can see, by screwing the canopy in the 'legs' on the front of the servo tray, you can make an Align fit the stinger with no alterations at all ..... the ends by the head are held in strong enough by the rubber grommets and locking pins.
AND in nitro form it even comes with a cut out under side at the front to improve airflow to the motor head while in forward flight ... PERFECT!!

I think that canopy looks good on the Stinger.
Keep us updated.

Will do, just debating weather to just paint the white bit 'white' (i like clean lines), or go with some other scheme along the lines of the new raptor 50 SE.
I was amazed at just how well this fitted, as aside from drilling the holes and making the align ones bigger to fit my grommets, and of course cutting a slot to allow access to the receiver switch, there are NO alterations to either the heli or canopy!

Another, 'better' pic:

Yea, a good angle. The more I see it...The more I like it.
I'm sure what ever route you take to dress it up will look good.
I have 4 Stinger canopy's, 2 fiberglass & 2 plastic & 1 banged up Raptor SE yellow.
The locals here think I have 6 different helicopters.
I have two,
  • JR Vibe
  • Gohbee 50
Take it easy.

Thanks Stephen.

As for paint, just need a solid day without distraction to figure that out. What does not show so well in the (phone) photo as it's not clear coated yet, is that I added a carbon look to the black paint to the canopy - see video below for 'how too guide'.

Lucky for me part of the products catalog I'm responsible for included the same type of mesh refereed to in the video

Still, for those looking to try something else with airbrush paint's, if you have not seen them, his videos are rather good and quite informative - his web site is great too.

Hey Jeff .. did you manage to try out that carbon paint trick yet? - I was quite pleased with how mine came out ... I'm 'hoping' (weather permitting) to have the canopy finished this weekend, but as we get some strong winds here in summer - as are due for the next week or so, it's looking to be a battle being I paint outside!

Now, I can't believe I'm saying this, but hopefully Santa took note of my e-mail i sent her and got the gyro I ordered and NOT the X-Box ..... !?!?!?!

Still, if not .... my birthday is next month!! (LOL)

HA!
I have the same problem as you but in reverse. we had -20F (-29C) with 40mph (64kph) wind, also not good for painting outside.
It most likely will not be till April before it gets warm enough to paint outside.

Hey guys, Does the Raptor canopy fit the Stinger? I have ordered a stock one for mine to knock around with but I am going to want a better one soon. The Align one looks good too.

Bummer ..... still mid 20 something degree C here today, got 2 coats on this morning before the 30 knot NW wind kicked it this afternoon!

Tomorrow, light sand with some 1200 wet & dry before either touch up coat (not 100% happy so far) or clear ..... going with the white gloss paint and some 'selective' stickers to indicate the heritage of the Gohbee!!

The more I saw the nice high gloss white, the more I liked it - but because there is nothing to hide my lack of skills, it has to be cleaned up till it is just right!

Just got to clear coat it, put the grommets in, then pics will follow (using camera ... NOT phone!!)

PS ... it is just white with a faux carbon windscreen ..... taking a little longer as I had a little paint issue and needed to re-sand and paint again.

PSS ..... Dam that raptor SE canopy looks good Aerosmith!!
