Xbrute,

Jim Lerch posted some excellent photographs a while back. The should be somewhere in this (Thunder Tiger) forum.

I used brass tubing, epoxied around the nylon gear to retain the pins. Some use heat shrink. The posts on various forums of one of the three pins backing out are legion. The results almost invariably ugly.

Great flying machine, by the way!

Try seaching this forum sir, and you should find it.

glover,

Thank you for finding that.

I did a search of this forum after I posted yesterday (not wanting to leave him with a "just do a search" post) and could not find it.

Thanks to you guys I decided to take apart the tail on my Raptor 30 V2 and check on this pin. My Raptor is only a month or two old and has been flown probably about 10 times or so.

Sure enough, the pin was working its way out.

Thank goodness for these forums and this community!

I think I'll get some shrink wrap tomorrow and go that route to keep the pin in.

Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you need to do is hold the pin in some pliers and grind a small flat spot on the pin where the grub screw sits. Install it making sure the flat side faces the grub screw. Use thread lock to secure the grub screw. If the grub screw works loose and the pin moves it will wedge itself tight. against the grub screw stopping both the pin and the screw from working loose.

There are THREE (3) places you NEED to add the pin sleeves in the Raptor 90

#1 Tail main shaft, bevel gear sleeve (make sure sleeve doesn't rub the tail case when you put it)
#2 Tail boom case, lower pinion gear sleeve
#3 Tail boom case, Upper bevel gear sleeve

I used brass tubing that was a tad smaller than the I.D. it needed to fit over & swelled it open to the correct i.d. on a 3/8" socket (its outer diameter happens to be the 12.3mm i need in a vice) & cut it to the length i needed. epoxy in place!

If you are using shrink wrap, use thick heat shrink tubing & maybe two heat shrinks.

Grind a flat on the pin will work, however if you grind to much and/or tighten to much you may snap pin at this new weak pin & your back to square one! Some folks have ground pin & added sleeves as well!

It just needs a small amount ground off to lock it in place, but the copper sleeve is a good idea.

don't forget the copper sleeve should fit rather snug & also use a dab of epoxy to keep it from coming out

You also need a sleeve on the Metal Elevator Parallel Lever. I found out the hard way!
