Default 10 Flights, some ?'s

Did my 10th flight today. Loving the 700. Loving the power so don't want to mess with it to much. Only issue is my motor is getting really hot, as in can't touch hot after my flights. ESC is nice and cool. Settings below, anything I can do to cool it down without killing my power? Really concerned with the weather getting hot I might burn the motor up. Here is the info:

BL700MX (510KV)
CC HV 160
Flying /style: Mild 3D, Tic Tocs, funnles, half pyros...

Here are my ESC ratings

GOV mode
Gov Gain 13
Initial Start-up: Med 5
Headspeed Change: custom 18

RPMs:
1853
1961
2025

Motor Star Power 59
PWM: 8Khz

What is your motor timing set to? Should be 5 deg and try lowering gov gain to around 7. Was told to run lower gain by Frank Columbia who is a pro pilot that flys at my home field. Had mine at 13 also when I was told to lower it.

http://www.castlecreations.com/suppo...0mx-510kv.html

And if you haven't already then download the most recent firmware update and install:

CURRENT CASTLE LINK VERSION: 3.40.0
RELEASE DATE: 05-18-11

http://www.castlecreations.com/downloads.html

As this supposedly prevents over current / high temperature when running in governor mode at low RPM.

Thanks for the replies. I have the latest firmware ( just did it, so have not flew with it). Maybe that will fix it. Pretty much used the settings from CC. What is everyone running for the Gov Gain? If I go from 13 to 7 what can I expect? Thanks

My 700MX 510 started geting very very hot after version 3.26 and now V3.27 at the point that I can't touch it for more than one second. Probably near 70C.
Also I'm seeing higher current draw and max wattage wich may explain such a temp.
The CC 120HV and batteries are still under acceptable temperatures.
Btw I'm using the Align motor settings suggested by CC

I did exact setting as on Castel Creations on web site and for all my first 3 flight I had quite hot motor.
I have new ICE 120HV with stock Align 700MX 510KV mottor.
It flights great.

ID:	233379Been flying some more. I went to the straight CC settings: Motor Timing: nomral(5), PWM: 8KHZ, GOV Gain 12, rest exactly as website recommends. My motor is really getting VERY hot (can't touch it for more than a second), i am very concerned it is going to burn up. Here is my second flight data. Let me know of any ideas, thanks..

Not really what you want but you can try lowing the timing, you will loose a little power but get a lower motor temp.

Thanks for the replies. What do you think 3? I read some guys using PWM 12 and 3 on the motor timing? Would that make it worse? BTW I am running the CC 160 vice the 120. No one else seems to be running so hot. I wish I knew why, I am running the slant gear could that have something to do with it?

zaboaa,

Heres a little more info on the setup I'm currently running, the MX700 510kv, slant gear set, CC 120HV, timing at 2 and PWM at 8khz. I'm flying between sport and light 3d. I have my HS at 1750, 1850 and 1900.
When I come down after 6 min of flight my motor temp is between 100-115F. When I had the timing at 5 back in the early spring when it was still cool outside the motor temp would push 125-135F.
For my flying style I didn't notice the power loss that much.
Hope this helps

Thanks Train. Sounds about like my flying style. Light 3D for me is Tic Toc's , funnels, flps, and half chaos (working on full :-) ). I'm going to lower mine and see how it flies. I am sure the motor is going to fry at the temps I getting..
