3d+ - engine alignment / clutch.

I had my clutch oneway bearing disintegrate on the weekend. After pulling everything apart found most of the rollers loose with many just falling out. After doing some reading it appears to be a weak point of the 3d+. The airframe was purchased 2nd hand, so I have no idea how long the clutch/oneway has been flown or how it was looked after..

I have a replacement clutch on order. What is the best way to maintain them? Grease? Leave them alone?

Whilst at the field it was pointed out to me that the engine was on a slight angle.. Id never noticed before as I assumed the engine mounting brackets would be in alignment.

I found if I mount the engine using the supplied holes it places the engine on a slight angle, with the shaft centered in the clutch bell.. The upper engine bracket is also on a shallow downward angle..

If I straighten the engine up ( square with frames/bench)- just using the bottom brackets, the shaft is off the center of the clutch bell by ~3-4mm and the upper mounting bracket doesnt align with the mounting screw hole..

I would have thought the shaft should sit square and inline with the center of the clutch bell? If I use the supplied mounting equipment the clutch is centered but not square..

To me it looks as if there should be spacers to push the engine out the 3-4mm to get everything to line up.

Btw, its a OS50SX Hyper engine.

I suspect this might be the cause of the vibe i was getting...

Please provide images of your mounting situation.
One thing to note is that the upper motor mount that goes around the crank case is shown upside down in the manual. If it is mounted as seen in the manual, it will cause binding and throw off the whole clutch stack.
The "ear" on the threaded side should face upward in the heli.

You should not grease a one way. If it must be lubricated, most use a drop of automatic transmission fluid.

Ahha, thats going to be it.. I just followed the manual and probably accounts for the every so slight angle the clutch/engine stack has...

So just leave the oneway alone... They should need any maintenance? For future reference, is there any way of removing the bearing from the clutch, for replacement?

I've tried to get the bearing out of the clutch bell and was unsuccessful. If you mean getting the one-way bearing out of the clutch itself, I'd lean toward just buying a new clutch since if the one-way is bad, the clutch probably isn't far behind.

Your right.. Screwing around trying to get the oneway out of the clutch is just not worth it.

I still havent reassembled my engine stack but im sure your tip will solve the problem

Ok. So I finally building this thing and I'm coming across a couple of posts stating mistakes in the manual regarding the pitch servo placement, upper engine mount etc..Did they come out with a correct manual? I have Version 2.1 5/20/2010 .There are just some conflicting info on some build videos I just watched. A little help please.

1. Which way does the Upper engine mount go. Flat side up or down?

2. Does the original 3d plus engine dampener system cause problems? Should I buy the K3d one.

The flat side goes down towards the motor. The ears face up towards the head.
