I hadn't realised you were using a metal head, I've heard that makes it more 'responsive'
To me the heli is responsive enough with the plastic head. Hope you have better luck going back to it. Dusty

I give myself 10 out of 10 for persistence here !!!!!! Reward - the little thing is back flying, albeit with metal head and old plastic swashplate. Still some oscillation, but it is a start.

It flies no longer !!!!!!!!
Was in barn, doing some setup, and then it just went wild. Completely uncontrollable. Wrapped itself around everything. Result: busted frame, batt holder, mainshaft blades, flybar, 2 servos, swashplate and feathering shaft, canopy etc By the time I have forked out for all those parts, I could buy me a new heli. I don't think I will bother............ Pissed off [ but sort of expected it with a Walkera ] Mike

That's unfortunate, sorry to hear the bad news. The only time I've ever experienced anything like that was when I crashed my 4#3B into a wall, instinctively cut the throttle yet it landed upside down with the blades spinning. Fortunately apart from scuffed blades there was no damage at all, turned out a dodgy battery wire was the culprit, it must have momentarily cut the power to the 4 in 1 when it hit the wall. I think this is the first time I've heard of a heli going wild all by itself. You must have been unlucky to say the least.
If anything I would say Walkera have improved immensely recently with their 2.4GHz models in terms of reliability and quality. When I started flying helis Esky was generally considered to be the better of the two, but it seems that now Walkera have overtaken them.

Mike, I wonder if your heli out of control is because of the battery wire being lose. I experienced quite a few times when wire got problems and heli just hit around. I had 6 batteries and 4 of which got wire problems, in which 2 of them got problems when I recieve it in new. Definitely quality of walkera product must be improve.

I held the batt in with an elastic band. Pretty sure that their wires were OK. Although the one in the wreck was smoking!!!!!!!!

Heli's are... challenging! No matter whether they are large or small there's nothing simple about them.
Do keep in mind though that every crash/rebuild increases the probability that something you think survived the previous crash(es) possibly didn't survive as well as you think it did. Something you didn't replace from previous incidents finally failed, resulting in your spectacular "mad heli" destroying itself. You may never know what it was that failed this final time. Definitely time for a brand new heli there! Good luck with whatever you choose to go with. - Michael |

sorry to hear about your crash. i recently purchased a blade 400 rtf. i went throught the heli and re-checked every thing that e-flite was supposed to do at the factory befor the first flight. i went to charge the battery for the first time and the balance charger instantly started smoking when i hooked it up to a 12v source. what ever so i charged it with another balance charger i had went through all my servo checks with the motor unplugged and all was fine. i got it up in the air and the tail was wagging so i set it down turned on the TH (which was set to zero in normal and f-mode since i'm still learning) set my TX on the front porch and started walking to the heli i wanted to check the blade grips since i thought they seemed a little loose. after about 5 paces the heli turned on full blast flipped over head first into the ground and completely thrashed itself to pieces for a full 6 minutes only after it sheared all of the head components from the main shaft was i able to go and unplug the battery. i understand your pain and am sorry for your loss. i think you have the right idea though a t-rex 600 sounds good to me too!
