so in conclusion you would have to say the bearing holders were the cause for the hum in your case?

You're welcome. Yes, definitely the TT bearing holders, and moving the one bearing for uneven spacing, definitely helped as well.

700 DFC tail issue
I firmly believe that the resonance is from the torque tube. I started a thread with my results of adding a third torque tube bearing and bearing offsets.
I tried everything after DFC tail grip assy. and black gears added to my Trex. It was only till I added the extra bearing and set offsets of the bearing s that all resonance was removed. I love my Trex again!

700 DFC tail issue
To add if the oil is used to install torque tube bearing holders into tube it will destroy the rubber causing them to expand a bit and become loose on bearing. Only use silicon...
But I agree the holders could be a bit better.

700 DFC tail issue
Add 1 to the 106mm Rail blades camp.
I finally got a chance to fly my 700 yesterday, and took a set of the 106 rail blades with me. I had done some bench testing with all blades off, and headspeeds of 1700, 1900, and 2100. There were no discernable vibes at any of the speeds and everything ran smooth. Only thing not stock is the 6mm tail shaft, that aligntrexstore sent with the kit. So went ahead and flew the align tail blades first, and did develop the hum at 2100. Not real bad, but you could hear it just starting. Swapped for the rails, and no hum. Sold! Oh, yeah, I think the rails were almost a gram lighter each, than the aligns. |

If it is the TT bearing holder will you dare to run the 5mm hub with align blades with the better TT bearing setup you have??? That would be a really good test of your theory.
I think doing all the mods is the best answer but would be interesting... |

700 DFC tail issue

I think if no resonance it would not break a 5mm hub. Also it's easy to think after all this that there was some epidemic of 5mm hubs breaking and really it was only a few, I think the real issue was the hum and vibration caused by the resonance that many people had issue with after upgrading or getting a V3, Align just played it safe.

The only thing i havent changed in this whole tail is the bearings in the tail box where the shaft goes through other than that i have changed every component on the tail ,Blades, rotor, grips, shaft thrust bearings. The only thing that has made a real difference is the blades the Rail 106 work the best!! better than Align and Edge in saying all this i very very happy to fly this machine @ 2000 and 2150 HS so i'm not going to worry about trying to get a extra 100rmp out of her 2000 and 2150 suit me perfect

I should have some new orings for the Gaui X7 TT bearing holders soon. It will be interesting to see how these work in the 700DFC, since the X7 doesn't appear to have any TT resonance issues.

One thing with my DFC, I decided to go ahead and install the nitro setup from the get go, and I haven't seen any issues with mine. I am going ahead and do the outrage bearing holder install as soon as they come in. Should be here any day.

Rail blades sorted out my issues and changed to Aluminium boom which helped also but could have been the repositioning if the TT bearings ??, have changed all the gears now too and 6mm shaft. Flys great now at an additional cost of around £70 on top of an already expensive machine shouldn't have to do it really, the joys of kits I guess

2 weeks ago I picked up a 700 DFC HV kit. It's the first version with the stepped tail shaft and white gears. Knowing I'd probably have to chase down the dreaded vibration I built the kit and ran the heli up (no main blades) on the bench and sure enough the tail was a complete blur. I've been trying all the mods and adjustments from here on the forum and have finally found a consistant solution to stop all the vibrations.
3) 8x16x5 bearings in the stock rubber cradles (I turned some Delrin ones but they didn't help) the center one offset to the rear of the heli 30mm and each other bearing roughly 180 mm in from each end offset + or - 5mm. Using all the stock gears, shafts and Align tail blades I now have NO vibrations at all in the tail running up to a 2200rpm head speed. I also tried moving the bearings each way roughly 30mm from where they are now and can change how the tail vibrates and at what rpm. A huge Thanks to all who posted in this thread, without all this info I'd be Now to reinstall the 6mm tail shaft and head out to the Field. |

After building a new 700E DFC combo kit everything seemed fine with no "buzz" from the tail. After a few flights I developed a horrendous vibration that caused the horizontal fin on the boom to flap so much it became a blur (quite a feat given the stiffness of the fin). There was also signs of tail blade flutter in mild piro maneuvers. The buzz started at about 1500 RPM on spool-up and was present up to 2150 RPM.
On inspection I found the tail blade grips had somewhere between 0.5 and 1mm axial movement, which allowed the blades to move a huge amount laterally (yes, the bolts were tight). I don't remember having this play when I built the kit. Wanting to solve as many possible issues in one go as possible, I upgraded to the new black gears, full length 6mm tail shaft and matching hub. The same tail blade grips and bearings had no play on the new hub. I also positioned the bearings in the boom so they were unevenly spaced rather than spaced as per the manual. The end result - no sign of the vibration at 1900, 2000 and 2150 RPM head speeds with the standard carbon wrapped boom and tail blades. I avoided changing blades and boom as this just appears to affect the resonance at which the vibration occurs rather than the root cause. I'll add thanks to those that posted here, it was a great help.

I hope they will offer an exchange service (old tail blades for new) (and not just for the USA), since their advice on the 700 has been to not use the ones supplied in the kit and to buy another manufactures product, to fix the problem.
